This review is from: Brookwater's Curse Volume II (Paperback)
Another captivating look into the life of vampire extraordinaire Christian Brookwater is revealed in Brookwater's Curse Vol ll

With the revelation that shady business is going on in the vampire world, the monster nation is about to be divided into two armies.

On the far side in the ring are the Founding Fathers.
These high counselors have ruled the vampire world for hundreds of years but in recent years have sought to ruling with more than just an iron fist...well in Emanuel's case the leader of the pack, an illuminated hand...the hand of death! The Founding Fathers have enslaved the Elder Wolves and have been using them for their own personal gain over the nation, deceiving their constables and the rest of the vampire council members.

Behind the ropes just on the outside of the ring are the Werewolves and Rachasas (cat shaped people) who want to put a stop to the mockery the Founding Fathers are making of them and save their race from becoming extinct. But to bring down the vampire Founding Fathers without being killed in the process, the werewolves have to convince the rest of the vampire world that their superiors are up to no good.
In order to do that, Lily the Werewolf Queen and newcomer werewolf husband Jeremiah pulled off an underhanded tactic to get the attention of the much respected, yet feared vampire Christian Brookwater and his crew. Lily then lured them onto her turf so they would give her their undivided attention and hear her spiel. Upon learning shocking truths about the Founding Fathers and their schemes, Christian Brookwater, his crew, the Werewolves, and the Rachasas unite to fight for a cause.

The plan: A battle of epic proportions to bring down the High Counselors
The predicted outcome: Peace among the monster races.

Seems straight forward doesn't it? Well, as you become absorbed inside the world of these supernatural monster creatures, you'll realize that although Christian Bookwater is a vampire, he also has all the emotions of a human man who wants to protect his loved ones at all costs. Will he be able to protect the mother of his unborn child along with his human adult son and granddaughter?
Or will Emanuel have the last deadly swipe with his hand of death?
Who will win this war of the monsters and what will be the ramifications?

A refreshing read featuring a multicultural cast of characters each showcasing their own unique personalities. Although this is serious business for the characters Christian Brookwater and company, author Steven Van Patten writes with a humorous flare that will have the reader laughing out loud on numerous occasions as the drama unfolds.

It is crystal clear that Steven Van Patten carefully did his research and then added his special brand of imagination and humor to bring this vivid supernatural tale to life.

A HIGHLY recommended read!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Monster Character's is back, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Brookwater's Curse Volume II (Paperback)
Author Steven Van Pattern has done it again. He brought back the whole gang and introduce us to some new ones in this MUST read squeal. If you haven't read Vol. 1 I suggest you go out and get it and then read Vol. 2.

In Vol. 2 most of the book is spent with Constables reading thru Christian's journal and what is not in the journal Christian fills us in on ( of course the most important things are NOT in the Journal). This was an interesting concept that works very well. Vol. 2 picks up right where Vol. 1 left off and answers any question that I had which was none until I read Vol. 2 ironically.

A lot of things where explained in this book like how the civil war between the Vampires came to pass. Who started the whole war and some very important answers were giving about the heritage of Christian Brookwater, and why he is the only Vampire that can father children. A lot of explaining about the Founder Fathers and their powers was given. Steven explained in detail about the Rachasas (a race of shape shifting cat people) and their history. Also detail explanation about the werewolves and their history. In short, Mr. Van Pattern sums up this book very well and ties it all together with Vol. 1. As with Vol. 1 this is going on my list of favorite books. I look forward to reading more of this talented author he is one NOT to sleep on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Brilliant Novel, June 16, 2008
By
This review is from: Brookwater's Curse Volume II (Paperback)
Brookwater's Curse Volume II is the second installment from Steven Van Patten's Brookwater's Curse series. Mr. Van Patten is endowed with a natural ability and talent to give the reader a dynamic visual ride. His vivid imagination and humor play a key part in this volume which keeps the reader entranced and unable to put this book down.

The reader will find relevant messages about the society we live in today but without being overwhelmed with a politcal rant. Mr. Van Patten delivers well meaning thought out messages that will cause you to take a look at our current political system and agenda.

I am confident that once the word spreads about Brookwater's Curse Volume II, Mr. Van Patten will be in great demand to keep the series flourishing.

I look forward to reading more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monster Wars, March 15, 2011
This review is from: Brookwater's Curse Volume II (Paperback)
I said it once and I am going to say it again...DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER. If you have read the first installment of Brookwater's Curse than you will know that the cover of the book acurately depicts the story the lies between the pages. I love when an author takes the time to construct an original cover for the book that reflects the actual story.

Christian Brookwater is the black vampire hero we have come to love. Everything that he and the other vampires were told throughout the years were actually lies upon lies. These lies having caused countless and meaningless deaths of vampires, werewolves and rachasas (shape-shifting cat people.) The High Counselors plan to wipe out ALL of the monster races. High Counselor Emmanuel, known as the "hand of death" leads his eager, loyal followers to do his bidding.

On the other side Lord Tanata along with a group of some ot the most deadliest samurai vampires will go to war with Emmanuel trying to save the monster races. It is going to take a miracle for these monster's to come together to win the all impending war brewing. The question is will they be able to work together or will they kill each other in trying?

Brookwater's Curse Vol. II by Steven Van Patten was a phenomenal read. The main character Christian Brookwater is not only serious and engaging he is also humorous and sarcastic. Sometimes you will find yourself laughing out loud. Other times you will be on the edge of your seat, turning the pages to find out what is going to happen next. If you enjoy reading about vampires, samurai's, werewolves and shape-shifters...I guarantee you are going to love this novel. By far Brookwater's Curse I & II are my favorite novels of this genre. I highly recommend both of these novels!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite reading! Encore!!!, April 8, 2009
This review is from: Brookwater's Curse Volume II (Paperback)
In Steven van Patten (Winner of The Premier Book Awards Best Mystery/Thriller/Fantasy for 2008) novel, the story of Christian Brookwater continues. A chain of revelations (treason, thorny political plots, personal growth fueled by both stipulation and choice) turns this classic novel into a contemporary journal. The author's intention of entertaining while exposing some realities we all can relate to, is triumphant. Nonetheless, the reader is not faced with judgment or sermon prejudice, even in Evil actions some Good is present and none of the characters is flawless. Not an easy task when the classic Vampire genre is to be sustained. Since I have been exposed and became familiar with Steven van Patten's work (published and otherwise), I now have very high expectations, which were met and exceed in his new masterpiece. He created and uncovered all old and new characters with an uncanny precision; the comic moments had me instinctively laughing aloud; the surprise element was present proving that often things are not what they look. Mr van Patten's eloquence and refine use of word will delight every literature lover.

My sincere congratulations to who has become one of my favorite authors of all time and gratitude for offering me (and many others) such feast for famished and avid readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars BWC keeps getting better and better..., January 1, 2009
This review is from: Brookwater's Curse Volume II (Paperback)
Steven Van Patten has done it again and this time with a vengeance. In Brookwater's Curse Volume I, we are introduced to vampire, Christian Brookwater. Brookwater's Curse Volume II picks up where Brookwater's Curse Volume I left off and the reader is instantly transported to sites where the modern day world co-exists with elements of the underworld.

In this book, warring factions of Vampires, Werewolves, humans and other creatures alike take their positions on the stage and page in a can't miss battle of wit, skill and bravado. I couldn't put this book down for fear that I would miss the continuous action in the pages. Brookwater's Curse Volume II is daring sequel that honors Brookwater's Curse Volume I in that it pays homage to the reader's investment in the series and the characters. We are introduced to new characters with pivotal roles to the plot as well as many characters carried over from the first book that have an entirely new and adventurous tale to tell.

You need not be a lover of vampire lore to enjoy this book, but you will be by the time you turn the last page. I do hope there is a Volume III to come as this is a brilliantly guided journey you just never want to end.

When Christian was made a vampire, no one could have possible been ready for what he was going to bring!

This is the second installment in the Brookwater series and let me tell you it just gets better and better with every turning page! Christian and all of his friends from the first book are back and ready to go on with their lives until they find out that they are about to enter into a Civil War with the Founding Fathers of Vampirism. You have many different types of friends but they are all friends. You have of course vampires, samurai vampires, werewolves and rachasas which are shapeshifters. When you put that bunch together you have the ultimate fighting team!

Brookwater's Curse is an exceptionally written book with the excitement and suspense to keep you glued to your seat until your are done! I would highly recommend that you purchase these 2 books, if you love vampires it is a no-brainer but if you are on the fence, Brookwater and crew will bring you over to the right side!

Great Job Steven!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Can I finish my story?" Christian Brookwater, from Brookwater's Curse Volume 2., August 1, 2010
This review is from: Brookwater's Curse Volume II (Paperback)
While considering what I would say when writing this review, I thought it would be a great idea to include a quote from the continuation of this amazing journey into another world. I call it a journey instead of a book because that is exactly what it is. Aside from a storyline that will keep you riveted and make you want to call in sick so you can keep reading it, there are so many great quotes that it was hard to choose just one. I chose this one because the main character, Christian Brookwater becomes so real in the story, I believe that were you to ask him why you should read this book, that is exactly what he would say to you (in a menacing but sincere way, lol). This really is more than just a book. It is the continuation of the life chronicles of a man determined to balance the scales of justice despite unfairness life and un-life has dealt him. Perseverance over betrayal, humor despite tragedy and the acknowledgment that no matter what obstacles are thrown in our paths, no matter how great, survival depends on the willingness and determination to prevail. The other characters in the book are equally engaging and there is something in this story that everyone can relate to. I won't ruin it for you by telling you what's going to happen, this is a journey you need to take for yourself but I can assure you it is one you will not regret. Once again, Steven Van Patten has amazed me with his ability to paint portraits with words and his mastery in the art of storytelling. He is truly one of the greatest storytellers of all time. I curtsy to him. Rhonda Choudhry
