Product Description

Product Description

The 5300 is a universal carrying case to store most free arm sewing machine models or sergers. It is a hard cover case which gives great protection for your machine and helps to keep it clean when not in use.

Amazon.com

Structured to fit any free-arm sewing machine and most sergers, this Brother universal carrying case offers protection and easy transport for home sewing appliances. The two-part case is formed from durable hard plastic that is strong but lightweight, and the molded form adds extra protection. Hinged metal locks close the lid securely, and a built-in handle makes carrying easy. Great for taking sewing machines on the road or safe-keeping them when they are not in use, the case is made in the USA and measures 17 by 11.5 by 14 inches. --Emily Bedard

I have 4 of these cases. I like them because they are indeed larger and have extra 'nooks' for putting the extra accessories, foot pedal, manuals, extra books, material and sometimes a small sewing kit for when I take it to class.

The size is OK for my smaller White 2000 serger and lots of sewing accessories and material; also good for my Elna 744 serger (larger machine) with pedal and extra feet and manuals. If all you want is something just your machine's size, then better get the smaller Singer sewing case. Do some measuring to be sure. This case is for stand alone machine heads and not the type that needs to be attached with the 2 hinge pegs (for flatbed). I'm very happy with these cases for the above reasons.

UPDATE: 7 Aug 2012 - In the past few years I have bought three more of these larger cases, one just this past April. So far, the quality has been the same in all of them, same thickness of plastic and the tops fit correctly into the bottom groove when locked into place -- lucky me considering how our world's cut-price/cut-quality mentality has ruined many a favorite item.

UPDATE: 2/15/2015 - FYI - Unexpected Save -- we had a pipe burst and it flooded part of the area where I keep some of my machines. The machines sitting on the floor in the Brother Universal 5300 cases were saved from water damage because of the high (bottom piece) sides.

One of the machines housed in this case is an older, smaller metal sewing machine and it slides a bit. I put a piece of a spongy drawer liner in the bottom and that stopped the sliding. I still find it best to pack a few things around the machine. I wrap the controller (foot pedal) and cords in an old t-shirt to avoid scratching and that rag doubles as a wipe rag when needed.

I had read the reviews before purchasing this case to house my new Brother sewing machine. I knew it would probably be oversized. So, I saved the syrofoam bottom that my sewing machine came packed in, and it fit nicely into the Brother 5300 Universal Case bottom. I just put my machine in there and it's secure and safe! Thank goodness for AMAZON REVIEWS because I was prepared!

I recently purchased this carrier to accompany my daughter's Brother LS2125I 10-Stitch Free-Arm Sewing Machine. That is a large machine, as sewing machines go. This carrier easily holds it, plus the cords and foot pedal, plus a project book, a couple yards of fabric, and a few small tools such as your pincushion, seam rippers, thread snips and/or shears. This is great if you take the case to class with you, or if you want to store your current project with your sewing machine. For us, it functions like a little self contained sewing center. Want to sew? Everything is in one spot. Need to reclaim your desk or table? Everything goes back in the case. Works very well for that type of in-between-sessions storage.

This is not so good, however, if you are looking for something very compact, or if you want your machine to fit snugly in the case, to prevent knocking about. The case itself is lightweight and sturdy, but once packed full, can be quite heavy. It also easily takes up twice as much room as a large sewing machine. If all you need is sturdy storage for your sewing machine, you can get by with a much smaller case. This particular case measures 12x14x18 inches. My Brother 10-Stitch measures 6x13x15 inches (with the thread spool in the retracted position,) which means that the case more than doubles the volume needed for storing my machine.

All in all, I was pleased with the purchase, since my main objective was to keep things clean, together and undamaged in between sewing sessions on the dining room table. It does that quite well. However if I was going to travel with my machine, I would recommend 1) a smaller case and a lightweight machine, and 2) carrying your other supplies in a separate totebag, so you don't have a big 25 pound package to lug around.

This case is really good, it fits my 1034D Brothe serger very nicely. The only thing I wish it has, is a compartment below the sewing machine, like with a little trap door or something. but other than that, its great, and it does its job well

I think they should have 2 universal sewing cases. 1 For big machines, 1 for small ones. I just bought a small sewing machine and also bought this case. It's good quality, and highly recommend it to protect your machine, but this one it's too big for my machine.
But anyway I can recommend this product, it's good quality and will help you protect your machine.

The picture of the item is deceiving as its taken from the side, so you can't see how enormous it really is. It takes up too much storage space too. I recommend seeing if the Singer case might fit better.

While the dimensions of this product were certainly given in the description and I take some responsibility for not getting my tape measure out, the picture gave me the impression that the case was more compact than it turned out to be. The fact that it is a "universal" carrying case means that it is much larger than needed to accomodate the sewing machine I bought. This is because it is intended to also accomodate a serger, which is a larger machine. Space considerations were a factor in my decision to purchase a new machine and the unwieldy size of the new case made it unacceptable to me. If space is not a problem, this case would be OK.
