Finally,,,,a book with male main characters and humor that isn't at all dumbed down with potty humor or silly cartoons! Our 9 year old loved this book, and he is a strong but reluctant reader. For our son, books like the Harry Potter are a bit too difficult, books like the Captain Underpants series are just plain idiotic (from his parents' point of view), books like Magic Treehouse are way too easy, and any book with a talking animal is just plain dorky. We are avid library users, and even our librarian acknowledges that most books for kids this age are written with girls in mind. How amazingly refreshing to read this one! The writing is clear, modern, and humorous. The chapters vary from a single page to about 8 pages long. There are periodic illustrations. We laughed throughout, yet the book was touching as well, with its themes of brotherhood and family. Along with Secret Letters from 0-10 (by Susie Morgenstern), this is a new family favorite.

My son is almost 10 and is in a school book club with 8 boys (4th grade). They all loved the book. I didn't read it but it seemed to be a fast paced and interesting story. We compared and contrasted it to Pinocchio.

I bought this for my 9 year old who likes to read but is very picky about what he'll read. He loves this book! Not only is he being introduced to technology (that isn't exactly dumbed down), but he's learning French (with an atrocious accent!). He often reads sections out loud because "they're just so funny, you have to hear it".

I'm now reading the book to discuss it with him before he takes an AR test on it. It is funny, educational and teaches subtle lessons about family dynamics. I may make references to specific scenes in the near future when talking about his "responsibility" as an older brother.

Overall, it's great to finally find a book with a boy main character who is goofy yet still expresses deep insight in a youthful way. Thanks, Evan Kuhlman!

My 10 year old daughter had this book assigned to her for Battle of the Books at her school. I often read this with her and looked forward to doing so each evening. This book is well written from the perspective of a middle school boy and covers his thoughts on adults, food, school and of course, girls. I really like how the book makes you think about differences and acceptance and uses appropriate amounts of humor and thought-provoking ideas.
