4.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly!, February 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Brother Cadfael: TV Soundtrack (Audio CD)
For those of you who enjoy Gregorian chant, this is the album for you! Even if you've never seen the BBC show, you'll love "Brother Cadfael". Over an hour of period music from the early twelveth century, that is darkly meditative without ever becoming monotonous. A perfect album for rainy days and candle lit evenings. I hope this album inspires your interest in the tv series as well, David Jacoby is excellent (as always) and "Brother Cadfael" is one of the best period dramas ever made, beautifully written and costumed. May you enjoy this album as much as I have, Heavenly dreams...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, April 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Brother Cadfael: TV Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I listen to this CD frequently. I am a fan of the stories, but you will enjoy this CD even if you've never heard of Shrewsbury! The Gregorian chant is superb and angelic. The music generates the feeling of being in a large cathedral setting, drinking in the "angelic" atmosphere. The music so compliments the stories and makes them the best period piece to come along in awhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Themes, October 9, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Brother Cadfael: TV Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I am not going into Cadfael film information. You would not be here if you did not know what you want. And this CD does have exactly what you are looking for, the Cadfael of Shrewsbury (Opening title music).

All tracts composed, arranged and conducted by Colin Towns, except 2, 5, 8, 121, 13, 17, 18, 22 directed by Barry Rose.

Length of the individual tracks is not available but the entire CD is 54 minutes and 42 seconds. Track 23 can not be more than 30 seconds.

A small 8-page pamphlet is included explaining that this is as close as they come to our idea of the real thing with out sounding too much like the real thing. It seems that Monks did not join due to their singing ability.

The complete album is enjoyable and does not contain any out of character tunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music CD costs twice as much as all the series DVD's put together, February 17, 2011
This review is from: Brother Cadfael: TV Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I can only suppose that Colin Towns has all the money he needs or wants. It is impossible to buy a new copy of this music CD without having to pay a grotesque price that is more than double the price asked for the entire series on DVD's. You can't download this music collection on MP3's, either.

In a time of financial and economic distress, here is an opportunity for a music company (or somebody) to make a great deal of money by re-releasing this CD for sale. All too often people don't even see that they have a gold mine in their own back yard. I would cheerfully pay $25 for this CD, but not $200.
