I've had this printer for about 6 months now. It replaced a very good DCP-8085DN. I use the sheet feeder a lot for scanning documents and one big improvement in this printer was the ability to scan both sides of legal sized paper. The other big improvement in scanning is that both sides are scanned in one pass which makes the process much faster than the old printer. However, the pocket for scanned pages is smaller than the old printer, so if you have more than just a few pages in there, the ADF will start pushing out the already-scanned pages, or crumpling them up.

Print quality has been a huge disappointment. Almost from the beginning, the printouts have been very poor. For some reason, the toner doesn't completely release from the drum, so it will take a couple of rotations down the page before that part is fully transferred to the paper. I have found that if I remove the whole drum unit and clean the corona wire then it will make good prints for about 3-5 pages. While this is a workaround, it wastes a lot of paper and toner. Brother tech support is almost completely useless.

I did like my last Brother laser printer, but I can't recommend this one... at least not to someone I like.

We purchased this to replace an aging Canon copy machine at our church. We've been very satisfied with it so far. Compared to what we were used to, the print speed seems very peppy. Apple Airprint compatibility is a nice touch, as I can print the church bulletins directly from my iPhone. The USB port on the front offers some nice flexibility as well... in that you can print many document formats directly from the flash drive, and also scan documents directly to the flash drive.

Easy to set this up and helpful hints on the quickstart guide to get this running in a few minutes after unpacking.
Good quality print with duplex option not slowing the print speed to any noticeable level.
Capable of iPhone printing when both connected to network.

The ADF has been great, no jams (but i've had it for only a month or so). I upgraded from a smaller brother dcp because I needed a faster printer, and this one is much faster (40ppm vs 27). It has met my needs. I have it connected to a computer and it is networked through my computer, so I cannot attest to the networking features, but it works flawlessly with windows 7 pro computers connected together. Overall I am happy, though I wish the duplex scanning through the ADF was quicker, you have to go through a few options to select it each time, a stand alone duplex button would have been better.

update---

We have had this printer at the office for over a year now. It is still holding up to daily loads. I have replaced the toner a few times and the high capacity toner is now readily available. Occasionally it will make a strange noise. I called brother and they offered to send a refurbished out after a while on the phone, but since it has a 3 year replacement warranty I figure I'll wait till it stops working first since we still have other printers to use.

Purchased this to replace an aging Dell multi function. Boy am I impressed. The old Dell MFC was a pain in the ass from the beginning for set up, but it did have network capabilities. This Brother is far superior and has full network capabilities. Easy to set up and makes really beautiful printing. And boy is it fast. The scan to network is far better than Dell. Using W7 and its a dream to set up and print. Can network scan to any folder for each registered user.

This printer does not have built in wireless -- but its designed for small offices. If you have wireless hooked to your network, the printer works like a wireless printer. our main router is wireless -- and our mobile devices print directly to the printer through the wireless router.

Not sure about the comments on other Brother printers about noise. Its quiet. Not dead quiet, but its an office printer. Users almost no power in sleep mode. Using on a 15 amp circuit with other computers -- no issues with breakers.

As most people that buy Brother say, they just run and run.

The printer works well and integrates completely with AirPrint and my network. A few things, though:

First, I didn't realize that this didn't include a wireless adapter. I wouldn't have purchased it if I had realized that in advance. I bought an Airport Express device to extend my wireless network and plugged it into that and it works fine.

The software is a bit inscrutable. Setting up the network scanning/emailing is challenging, and the web interface is difficult to understand. The manual isn't great, either. It will take some time and effort to work the scanning features into my workflow.

Duplex works great.

The printer really powers up when you print to it - so much so that it dims the lights in my office and apartment. That may say more about my apartment's electric than it does about the printer, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and the features, but I wish it were more clear that this didn't have built in Wi-Fi and I wish the setup and software were more intuitive.
