Brother DR-400 - Compatible Brother DR-400 Drum

My trusty Brother HL-1440 laser printer was giving me a low toner message so I covered the sensor holes and tricked it into printing more pages while I fully intended to order new toner. By the time I got around to it the Drum message was blinking as well. Figuring I had probably printed more than 20,000 pages, it was time for a new drum. I initially replaced the toner only, but the page quality was still suffering from the old drum. I installed the new drum and the pages came out clean again.

Before I ordered the replacement drum, I was faced with the decision to buy a new printer with a new drum or just buy a replacement drum. The OEM drum was more than a new printer, so why not get the new printer? Because this compatible drum plus new toner was less than half the price. Also most of the new printers only have a 10,000 page drum and a starter (700 page) toner. For example, a new HL-2170W will only accept the TN330 (1500 pages) or TN360 (2600 pages) while this DR-400 compatible drum will last for 20,000 pages and my old printer will accept the TN460 toner (6,000 pages). In the long run it was much cheaper to replace the drum and toner and continue to use my higher capacity printer.

BTW, the drum arrived quickly, packaged within an air filled sleeve, and worked perfectly.

Easy install and setup in a Brother HL-1440
printer. Gave good page quality by the
5th copy. After several hundred pages,
the quality continued at the same level
(good quality). However, it is slightly
lighter than the quality produced by the
Brother OEM drum.
(Note: the toner is Brother OEM).

While I have no reservations recommending
this drum, it is a bit pricey and you might
find a better value.
