Brother DR510 20000 Page Drum Unit

This unit will give you a replace drum indication via a simple page counter @ 20,000. If you do regular printing - simple forms, invoices, etc. and don't print a lot of greyscale, like photos and such, you can easily get 36,000 to 42,000 pages. When you start to get streaking or little sploches or dots of toner, then replace. I have done this many times and it doesn't hurt a thing as long as you have a new drum ready to go when the defects show up. Save some money & the environment!

I am one of those guys who dutifully changes the oil in his car when the mileage is up. So, of course, when my Brother printer hit the 20,000 mark and started telling me it was time to replace the drum, I spent the money and did it. Of course, the drum I had was printing just fine, but who was I to argue with scheduled maintenance?

Now with my NEW drum, I get ghost printing when I print envelopes. I get a weak image of the first text and then a second even weaker image of the text again below it. It is like the toner is sticking to the drum and getting put on the paper a second time as the drum turns. If I move the blue slider back and forth a few times it will clear up for a little while.

I need to call Brother and let them know my problem. I regret, though, spending the money on a new drum, when my old one was working perfectly fine. Unfortunately, I through the old one out before we discovered the problem with the new one.

I ordered this because the advertisement said that it was an original "Brother" drum. Upon receipt of the product it was not an original "Brother" drum but a reworked one. No where in the ad was this stated. I could have bought a reworked replacement for less elsewhere. Since I needed the drum right away it was not convenient for me to return it even though the amazon partner would allow me to do so. Be careful when you order these types of things to insure that you are getting actually what you expect and not an inferior replacement.

Review date: 01/29/09 -- When I read the reviews on this product, I almost didn't buy it from Amazon because of the negative reviews that said this DR510 drum unit was a *compatible* or *refurbished* unit. However, the unit I received is a brand new drum unit manufactured by Brother, and fulfilled by Amazon -- it is exactly as advertised by Amazon. We haven't used this one, yet, but it appears we received exactly what we ordered.

If you're reviewing or buying this product, please be aware that Amazon offers several options for the Brother DR510 drum unit: (1) brand new, (2) used, (3) refurbished. When you do your search for "DR510", the *first* option that comes up is for the brand new units, followed by the other (and less expensive) possibilities. I wonder if some of the negative reviews about this product are due to the possibility that the reviewer/buyer was posting a review to the wrong page?

Even though the title of this item is "Brother DR510 20000 Page Drum Unit", it is NOT by Brother. It is a "compatible" unit. There is nothing in the product description that indicates this is NOT an OEM (Brother) item, and I feel that this is very misleading. I have not yet decided whether to try it out anyway, or return it based on false advertising.

I have used my Brother/copier in my part-time CPA practice at home for about five years now and been very pleased with it. The original drum lasted well beyond the 20,000 pages for which it is rated. This new drum has 8,000 copies on it and is operating well.

I guess this product isn't so great since my drum unit caused quite a bit of smeared ink marks on my print outs and copies. I had to replace it well before the 20,000 copies mark.

I don't know how many times that I have to respond to one little purchase I have done. Please review your own policy & procedure in regards of your marketing strategy. It is very counter-productive. I will say one more time. The product I have purchased was not "Brother" product; it was "Premium Compatible". I even received an e-mail offering me $10 to remove my command about "Compatible" product. Please check your own suppliers closely and not keep on bothering your customers.

This review is for a refurbished DR510 drum unit sold by TonerEagle. It is NOT a new drum from the factory, and I knew that when ordering. This review was apparently misdirected by Amazon.com to appear in their listings for a NEW drum unit.

I use my printer for professional correspondence and after just 3 months this drum unit is splattering each page with artifacts and defects that render them unusable. It is listed as having a 20,000 page life span but I haven't gotten 500 pages out of it. My original drum unit lasted several years.

I contacted Toner Eagle and after confirming that the toner drum was defective they immediately overnighted a new drum unit. This new unit corrected my problem and I returned the defective one at their expense. Their customer service is fantastic and deserves praise.

ONE MONTH LATER..........

Unfortunately, just over one month later the replacement drum is beginning to show the same problem so I contacted TonerEagle again. Again, their customer service is fantastic, but unfortunately they have not been able to figure out why I am having this problem. I have two identical printers and the printing problem occurs in either printer when using this particular drum unit. They apologized and agreed to refund my original purchase price without question. I am now going to order a factory new drum unit instead. I wish the product worked for me as their customer service is awesome. Hopefully it works better for you.

Everything was as promised.. NEW product, directly from the original manufacturer and delivered within 48 hours!
