Glowing and vivid,
By A Customer
This review is from: Brother Dusty Feet (Hardcover)
Brother Dusty Feet is a for slightly younger readers than most of Rosemary Sutcliff's, but I would count it among the best. It has a glowing quality; every scene standing out sharply. It has also the joyous touch which characterises many of many of Sutcliff's books; that extra piece of magic and mystery which makes it linger in the mind. A jewel of a book.

Another Rosemary Sutcliff...,

This review is from: Brother Dusty Feet (Hardcover)
I am an enthusiast for Sutcliff's novels, having read about 30 of them. She crafts historical England as surely as Shakespeare did. "Brother Dusty Feet" is a solid performance without the fierce action, sacrifices, implicit love and bittersweet endings of her best novels. But she takes you tramping around the England of the late 16th century and you will enjoy the visit, though the story is gentle, without the dirt or cold or tribulations of her better works. Don't judge the author by this book or make it the first you read, but taken with her Opus, it fills a nice gap and Sutcliff is always a graceful writer.
