4.0 out of 5 stars Good economical fax for home or small office
I use this in my home office. I don't send alot of faxes or make alot of copies so I didn't need anything fancy and didn't want anything overly technical or expensive. This fits my needs perfectly, beginning with its low cost ($59 new, after $10 rebate, from on-line merchant). 3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for infrequent use, especially if you mainly send
As the title states, this isn't a bad little fax for infrequent use, especially if you send faxes far more frequently than you receive them. The "test" cartridge doesn't last long, and replacements quickly add up to the cost of the fax if you receive a lot of faxes or use this as a copy machine as well (20 bucks for the cartridge that lasts for 150 pages, so final cost...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good economical fax for home or small office, May 28, 2004

I use this in my home office. I don't send alot of faxes or make alot of copies so I didn't need anything fancy and didn't want anything overly technical or expensive. This fits my needs perfectly, beginning with its low cost ($59 new, after $10 rebate, from on-line merchant). It's small so doesn't hog desk space, easy to set up and use, has plenty of features (more than I'll ever need or use) and though the print quality isn't the best you'll ever see, it is easily legible and certainly satisfactory, for both faxing and copying. It may not be the machine for large offices or someone who sends alot of faxes or makes alot of copies, but, as an economical fax machine for occasional use in a home or small office, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one.

As the title states, this isn't a bad little fax for infrequent use, especially if you send faxes far more frequently than you receive them. The "test" cartridge doesn't last long, and replacements quickly add up to the cost of the fax if you receive a lot of faxes or use this as a copy machine as well (20 bucks for the cartridge that lasts for 150 pages, so final cost per page of over $0.13).

The quality of the output is fine, even on marginal-quality paper. Lots of features (including automatic fax/telephone switching), 10 page document feeder (although I've used it for more than 10 pages), scans documents fairly quickly.

Other than the high cost-per-page and the fact that the cartridge is a PITA to change compared to most other models, the only other gripe that I have is that the machine gives a "poor line condition" error when it has trouble feeding the paper (rather than blaming itself for the inability to feed paper reliably).

It's a cheap fax machine, and you get what you pay for.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply put together, May 31, 2004

Very cheap plastic paper-feeder tray snapped in easily enough for me, but it never snapped back out, nor would it feed the paper used for fax confirmation in easily. The other feeding system for the actual faxes seemed to work just fine at first, but then I noticed the paper frayed noticeably on one side if you resent it several times--not a good flaw if you want to resend one page, like a resume, to multiple employers. One last drawback is the included ink cartridge that is meant only as a "test cartridge" for up to 30 pages of use. Then, for around $20, you are supposed to buy a replacement ink cartridge that will last for another 150 pages of use. Well, the price was nice, but the product was not. I bought this at Office Depot and to their credit, they gave me a full refund without any re-stocking or re-packing fees, quite unlike CompUSA's return policy. I feel sorry for the poor fellow who has to re-pack that thing, though. Good luck on getting that paper feeder back out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple and easy, August 15, 2005
This review is from: Brother FAX-565 Plain-Paper Fax Machine (Office Product)
This is a very good basic fax/copier. It will handle most jobs for a small home office and it's easy to use. Just don't send a large (50 page) fax to it or you will use all your ink in one shot.

In order to work out of my home, I needed a simple fax so I dont have to go to an office to pick up or send paperwork. I literally plugged it in & was receiving/sending faxes w/ minimal confusion. Anyone who is giving low scores for quality ...what the heck to you expect? Titanium parts? I would rather have the less expensive parts with a less expensive price. Its your choice as the consumer.

I am extremely pleased! If I have any problems in the future with this fax, I will be sure to post again.

This is my first FAX machine. I bought it just as a convenience (home use) item. I don't get or receive that many faxes or make copies but running back & forth to the bank & library to FAX or copy something was always a chore. Then I came across this baby at Amazon.com for $59.95 w/free shipping & a $30.00 rebate and ONE YEAR WARRANTY: how could I go wrong? And I was NOT disappointed. It does just what I need without all the bells, whistles & hoopla some of the other machines do. It's compact, nice looking, easy to set-up & use (even for me). Read the instruction manual FIRST as I did & everything will go smoothly. For $30.00 I may buy a couple for Christmas gifts (better than a toaster....). Some of the other reviews were negative in that the copies "were not the best", but I have no complaints. They're readily readable & suitable for home use. As for me, I'm satisfied. Some say you only get what you pay for but in this case it is A REAL BARGAIN.......

We gave our old fax macine to my dad and definately needed another. I came across this one on Amazon w/ free shipping and a nice rebate. It's not top of the line, or it wouldn't be so economical, but for the price, it is just fine! I found the printer refills, also on Amazon, for an awsome price as well. You get what you pay for. If you just need a fax for home, mostly for sending ,or making the occasional copy ,and receiving the occasional fax, and you're on a tight budget, this is the machine for you! Have a blessed day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Home office fax/phone/copier, August 15, 2007
This machine is great for the home or office. It can handle any job from one or two faxes per day to multiple faxes per hour. Clear instructions and very easy to use for the novice or experienced office equipment person.

Machine is easy to set up; limited options but sufficient for my needs. However, though resolution can be adjusted for outgoing faxes (standard/fine/extra-fine), this is not possible for incoming faxes, and I find the 400x400 dot-matrix printout unreadable in many cases for work purposes (eg, trying to decipher phone numbers). Probably good if details are not essential, but if they are, get a machine with better print resolution.
