Brother IntelliFax 885MC Plain-Paper Fax with Message Center

I love my Brother 885 Fax machine and message center. This is a great machine that I use for a small home business, and it does what it is suppose to do very well. I always get my messages and faxes, its memory works as a backup if you run out of paper, and it has a blinking light if you get a message (a feature I use to take for granted before trying Panasonic and Sharp machines that didn't have this feature, and many paper jams!)
I don't use the phone handset, which seems flimsy, but again; this is primarily a fax and message center!

I have many different types of low priced fax machines. Many are expensive to operate. The brother machines, when using the refills is much more economical than other brands. Not to mention that for [amt] more than the 775 Brother, throw's in an answering machine. I found that you can adjust the incoming fax quality by selecting super fine mode, this prints in a higher resolution than the normal mode and show's greater detail when recieving.

REVISED - ONE STAR
At first when I used this fax for only outgoing distributions, it was a superstar because of its price. Then when I started getting faxes from contractors, it fell to a one star. I couldn't read most of them. Sure if someone used a bold or larger font, the info came through but the quality on regular fonts was not readable. I finally put this fax machine in the alley here in Chicago because I didn't want to resell it and have the person buy it get stuck with this problem.

quality of printing is worse than an old typewriter. copying quality very bad too. no way of controling anything. machine doesn't obey set ups. returning mine.

This machine actually has a piece of carbon paper on a roll that you have to re-roll or replace every time it runs out. It's unbelievable in this information age to have to deal with such a rinky-dink set-up. The copies aren't consistent at all. There are much better choices available.

This FAX machine is not worth the paper you'll print messages on. It comes with a ribbon reminiscent of some manual typewriter you discarded in the pre-computer era, except that that old typewriter did a better job. Incoming FAXes are barely legible, a fact you'll discover after you've spent your entire evening trying to set this bozo up. Outgoing FAXes work better. The phone part is a lightweight piece of junk. I didn't get so far as any incoming messages. ...

Tried everything stated in manual and find that you really don't know when you are sending or receiving a fax without checking the log after the fact. A fax receive is forever and you sit there and wonder if it is going to happen. Also hard to control the volume on message center when in the MC mode. Would not be a machine I would use if I were in ANY type of business climate that would require professionalism (if that's a word).
It's O.K. for the price but don't look for a gem and also don't look for too much support. Had some trouble with send receive response with Brother.

This really is a Great little machine: a dependable fax machine along with a message center. What makes it really desirable is that you don't have to fiddle with trying to set up numbers of rings and/or fax answering schedules, since the machine does both, it comes ready to determine what kind of call you're getting, and even if you pick up on a fax call, if you set the receiver down quickly, the fax will still come through without the caller having to call back, trying again. Also, it has a blinking light when you have messages so you don't miss seeing them, uses plain paper, and has the capability of setting of quick dial numbers. On top of all that, it is priced Very reasonably. I have one at home, and like it so well, I bought it again for the office. Highly recommend this nice little machine. Oh yes, it isn't a large machine either, and that is another plus.

This fax does everything I would hope for. I run a small busines out of my home and this is the only thing I need besides my computer!

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer this little machine that has an answering machine and lets me fax hard copy hassle free. It's true -- I had to replace a Brother machine that was just like this one. It died. But it was twelve years old. In today's world that is ancient!
