The Brother LS-1520 is a 21 stitch function free arm sewing machine. This is a great machine for mending or someone who is learning to sew. The machine features built-in stitches for garment construction, quilting, decorative sewing and heirloom sewing. The built in stitches include straight, satin and zig zag stitches as well as elastic stitches. The auto-set stitch width and length make it easy to adjust the machine for any of the built-in stitches. Brother's unique snap on presser feet are easy to change so it couldn't be simpler to set up your machine for any of the built-in stitches. You won't have to struggle to thread the needle on this machine as Brother's LS1520 has a built-in needle threader. The LS1520 also has an automatic 4-step buttonholer to help you make accurate buttonholes everytime. The machine converts easily from a flat bed, for sewing quilts or flat items, to a free arm for sewing shirt cuffs or pant legs. The LS1520 has an easy access storage compartment so you can keep all of your accessories right at hand. With the LS1520 you will also have an adjustable thread tension control, electronic speed control, quick bobbin winding system and forward and reverse sewing. Even with all of these features the LS1520 is still lightweight and compact with a built-in handle for portability. The instructions are bilingual in English and Spanish.

Tension was perfect right out of the box. It is plastic cased, so I am treating it gingerly compared to the hefty metal machine on which I learned to sew. Very easy to thread and wind bobbins. The manual has very clear illustrations. However, it requires some flipping through as each series of steps is printed in several languages. Very enjoyable, and I look forward to using it. I hope with care it lasts a good long time.

The machine worked for a few days... it was out of warranty by the time I started to use it. The amnual says that it has no user serviceable parts. So had to pay $50 just to get it fixed. Spend more and buy a better quality machine. The authorized service center guy told me these type of cheap machines break very frequently. Stay away!
