5.0 out of 5 stars simple and easy
I can only sew with a basic ability. I needed a machine to save time on basic repairs and very simple projects that took too long to sew by hand. This machine was very easy to learn and use. I am not overwhelmed with options that I dont know how to use anyway. I have only run into a few problem (all caused by me) and I was able to figure out what I had done wrong easily...

2.0 out of 5 stars Started out strong, but failed in the end
I thought I was getting myself a real gem based on reviews I'd read, unfortunately I was wrong. I have owned this machine for just under 2 mos and it's already having issues w/the lower bobbin. I called Brother and though helpful w/troubleshooting, we couldn't fix the problem and I was instructed to take it to the closest service center which unfortunately is 36 miles...

5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive machine that works!, January 16, 2005
This review is from: Brother LS2125 25-Stitch Function Free Arm Sewing Machine (Kitchen)
We bought this sewing machine for a child. I hadn't seen any other reviews, so I bought it thinking it might go back. I am happy to say that it works very well. It would be suitable for a beginning sewer-child or adult. It has a nice range of stitches and all the standard features that you might look for in a basic sewing machine.
For the money, this machine works fine. It can easily be used for projects such as making clothes, curtains, and alterations. It's a good basic machine for a child to learn on. I'd pay the extra $20. and bypass getting a "toy" sewing machine. They don't work very well and make for a very frustrating experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick and Easy..., July 17, 2005

I bought this mainly for hemming my own pants. Figuring that I would spend roughly $10US to get my pants hemmed by someone else, I decided I would just buy an inexpensive sewing machine and do it my self -I mean after ten pairs of pants, it's paid for itself, right?

So I did, I bought the Brother LS-2125 and now I hem my own pants, and can complete some upholstery projects I've been working on.

In the past, I've heard horror stories about many inexpensive sewing machines, and I wasn't ready to drop $400US or more on one, so I figured I'd give this one a try on whim -and now I am very happy with my LS-2125 as I've had no problems that weren't my own fault (RTFM).

And as someone who hasn't used a sewing machine in over 20 years (my grandmother taught me when I was a kid) I can honestly say that I would reccomend this as a beginner's sewing machine.

As a side note, now my girlfriend wants me to hem her pants (and some of my friends have offered to pay me to hem their pants too...).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased - used this machine to piece my quilt blocks, November 1, 2005

While I didn't NEED to buy a sewing machine for the quilting class I'm taking, I never seemed to be able to finish my blocks during class so I purchased this machine to work on them at home. I'm very pleased with it. I never used a sewing machine in my life until now. I was so overwhelmed at the thought of buying one - so I picked this one based on the price and previous 5-star reviews.

Being that I only need to stitch a straight line to piece my blocks (just to clarify - I am NOT using this for quilting stitches, just the piecing), a basic machine is all I needed. It didn't take long for me, a complete novice when it comes to sewing, to start piecing my blocks. The instruction book is thorough and includes diagrams that were helpful in figuring out where everything goes & what it all does. I was up & sewing in about 30 minutes. I really love this machine!

Machine was purchased as a starter machine on which my youngest two could learn how to sew. They are 6 & 8 and I can't get them away from it! It works well, seems durable, and is very easy to use! Great buy!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Machine, August 9, 2005

I recently purchased this wonderful machine after having my old one for the past 20 years. My old one was a Singer and had cost more when new than this one. The new one has twice as many features and is just so easy to work with. I am a novice when it comes to sewing, using the machine for minor repairs and alterations.

I will certainly be using this one more frequently! This price was the cheapest on the net and in retail.

Thanks,

Abbey McLeod

Needed a small cheap machine to do easy hemming and quick repairs of garments that now unravel after one washing.

Out of the box and sewing within half an hour. Easy instructions, works fabulous. Bought a cheapy $20 sewing machine that did not work.

This one is great for the price, felt just like Home Ec class 20 years ago but working with a nicer and easier to use machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use, June 9, 2005

Even though I worked as a seamstress in the Navy for about a year, I cannot really say that I am trained as a seamstress. I hemmed pants, added patches, and created (on an embroidery machine) patches then sewed them on uniforms, but that is really all basic stuff. I did learn how to control a really powerful sewing machine.

It's been over seven years since I used a sewing machine but the Brother LS2125 25-Stitch Function Free Arm Sewing Machine was relativly easy to set up and is easy to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great machine to beat up, September 26, 2008
This review is from: Brother LS2125 25-Stitch Function Free Arm Sewing Machine (Kitchen)
I bought this machine over 4 years ago to teach myself to sew. The first thing I made on it was a little shirt for my toddler. I just jumped in and haven't stopped sewing since, with the help and support of an xperienced group of sewers online. I have 3 little girls that are very close in age and I have been using this machine for over four years to make outfits and Halloween costumes for them. I have sewn everything from denim to linen, thick ruffles, layers of tulle, full, gathered, layered ruffle skirts, and God knows what else. Oh, the peter pan collared dress jacket I made of faux leopard fur and Brown corduroy (both quite thick fabrics)-I thought that was going to destroy my machine for sure! I broke 3 hand needles in half trying to put the buttons on that jacket but my machine sewed that thing without batting an eye. There were nights that I used this machine until the sun came up the next morning. I have really given this little machine a beating and my sister has borrowed it to sew stuff (seat covers for her car made from thick fluffy towels for our hot California summers) as well. I have used the satin stitch to applique on T shirts and dresses and pants.

It still works just as hard as it did the day I brought it home. I am really surprised to see the bad reviews because I must have gotten a real gem in the one I bought. I'm using it once again to make my girls' Halloween costumes this year.

I think as long as this machine is taken care of, and the right thread ad needles are used for the right type of fabric, it is fine. I have never had any problems with the tension, or thread gathering under the fabric, or thread snapping like some of the other posters. This machine has been a serious workhorse for me. I have to say it has paid for itself many times over by now!
