Pretty good multipurpose device,

This review is from: Brother MFC-3360c Color Photo Inkjet All-in-One (Office Product)
I really like that it has a built in fax modem. That means it can function as a standalone fax machine/copier. you don't have to connect it to a PC to use it as a Fax machine.
Text quality is good. Photo quality is OK. Good enough for casual photo printing, but pros and advanced amateurs will want a dedicated photo printer. Very easy to set up. Instructions are well written and easy to follow. It comes with PaperPort SE with OCR and the device control program (Brother control Center 3)is very well designed and allows you to do all the things the device can do pretty easily. I think the paper supply cartridge is poorly designed. It is too easy to accidentally change the size of paper that you are using and this can cause paper jams. I think this problem can be minimized with practice, but if you have a spouse who is a technophobe, it could be a point of frustration. I just got it, so I can't confirm this, but the manual claims the black ink cartridge can produce up to 900 pages of text, assuming an average of 5% coverage. If this is anywhere close to true, this means it is one of the most economical ink jet printers on the market. I paid $99 for this device, and for the money it is a remarkable value. Update 8/18/2007 - I have resolved the paper cartridge issue. Apparently, I hadn't set up the cartridge properly, and that was the cause of the paperjams. However, while I can upgrade the unit for overall design, I must downgrade it for its owner's manual's poor description of the paper cartridge set-up. It's still a good product overall though. I still have no regrets buying it.

This printer prints just fine ... when you gan get the paper to load properly!! The paper tray is so poorly designed it's a complete nightmare! If you don't get frustrated by poor designs, then by all means give this one a go. But if you are at all like me, and expect your electronics to perform consistantly day after day... THEN STEER CLEAR OF THIS ONE!

Worst Printer Ever,
By Fizgig (Arlington, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brother MFC-3360c Color Photo Inkjet All-in-One (Office Product)
Oh brother! Where to begin? This printer jams more than the Grateful Dead in the mid-nineties. It feels like every other time I print I have to clear a jam and then it have to turn it off to get it to reset, why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? Trying to print on anything other than 20lb stock...forget it, it confuses the printer. I am also surprised this printer is not built by Hummer the way it sucks down ink. I have a small business and this is the worst investment I made. I've only had it for three months and I had to have someone come out to fix it. The repair person just laughed at me and told me to get another printer. The printer has also stopped being able to take the paper without prodding and cursing, so it's always telling me there is no paper. Arghhh! The only good thing I can say is that the scan function does work. I highly recommend spending extra money on a better machine it will be cheaper in the end with the cost of ink.

Rip Off!,
This review is from: Brother MFC-3360c Color Photo Inkjet All-in-One (Office Product)
The cost of this all-in-one machine was pretty low, so I bought it. The box bragged about not wasting ink because each color has a separate cartridge, so I thought it was a good product. While I can't complain about the fax or scan components, the printer is primitive, and the ink is a killer! It can't print double-sided, unless you find creative and laborious ways to do this manually (no thanks), and it spits out multiple-paged documents in reverse order, so you have to reshuffle yourself. I rarely print things on this, but I probably spend $100 a year in ink. Furthermore, I print in black and white 95% of the time, but somehow the colors run out almost as fast as the black. When I compare the weight of a so-called empty cartridge with that of a new cartridge, there is barely a difference. You can still shake the cartridge and hear liquid in there, but the machine refuses to print! It is a complete scam, and I will never buy another Brother product because of this!

I bought this specifically to use as a multi page sheet feeding scanner and it works great for that purpose. Costs a fraction of other dedicated sheet feeding scanners. I have run 10-15 pages at a time through the feeder without any problems. Highly recommended for this purpose.

junk,
This review is from: Brother MFC-3360c Color Photo Inkjet All-in-One (Office Product)
The title says it all. As other reviewers have noted, the paper handling is a nightmare. In my case, the tray is stuck, so that the only way I can get paper in is to crack open the top less than inch and slide in a few sheets. The printer takes so long to start up that every time I attempt to use it, the operation times out in Windows an I have to restart the job to even get it to actually put ink on paper. Avoid this machine at all costs. Brother should never have put this Edsel on the market, but afterwards, should have had the decency to recall it and refund every penny the purchasers paid. I will avoid all Brother products in the future, and so should you.
More bad news: The color cartridges supposedly are empty, and the printer refuses to print even in gray scale. I'm buying a new printer before wasting another penny on this Edsel.

Worst printer I've ever used that wasn't broken out right,

I bought this thing this year and I won't buy another one of these things or anything they make. I'm not selling or even giving it away; as buying two sets of ink is like buying another printer. I'll be recycling it. It will not print if even one cartridge is supposed to be empty. Once I bought the ink I had to replace all of the cartridges in succession before I could print another document. That was my breaking point. There is lots of ink left in the cartridges after they are suppose to be empty. There is about a millimeters difference between the 'empty' and the full cartridges.
The paper handler is annoying if I don't push it in from the side the paper will go to far into the printer and jam. It has not only jammed when printing, it has also jammed when copying or faxing. No matter which opening I put paper in it has jammed on me. I wrote to complain about these problems and got form letters that didn't respond to what I said, but must have been chosen from the use of words like ink or empty etc. This is beyond bare bones and beyond that it is a money eater. I wouldn't wish that on someone else. It feels like a testament to corporate greed. Selling us crud cheaply and sucking us dry on the ink.

I needed a multi-page document scanner and this one does the job!! No hiccups. Scans multiple pages with no problems. I have owned this machine for about one year and LOVE it! Am purchasing a second one to keep in my car so I can take my office mobile. I read one reviewer's comment about cover open alert: there's a compartment in the very back that comes off if you push the paper tray in too hard. It is very easy to miss that it's "open" and I found it by accident. Very easy to push back in and begin operation!

not good for photo scan,
This review is from: Brother MFC-3360c Color Photo Inkjet All-in-One (Office Product)
I brought this to faciliate scanning of photos. It has a straight line feeder which works well upto 10 photos. It did a great job for about two weeks. Then I noticed scratch lines down the length of the scanned image. They were not always in the same place. Cleaning the plate did not help. Very frustrating in trying to remove theses 'scratches' from the scanned image.
