5.0 out of 5 stars This Multi-Function Rocks
We never Owned a fax machine before, and were saving copies via a SCSI flat bed scanner. This item has worked well for us making copies, faxes, and the video capture function is cool. VERY FAST PRINTOUTS! Bought for Page per min (PPM) and the individual ink carts (which are each reasonably priced when compared to lexmark, etc.) You either pay now or pay through the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this POS!!
I have had this printer, (Or the step lower MFC), for over a year. Let me tell you "IT'S A PILE!!". The only things that work on it are the scanner. It works very well in fact but that doesn't begin to make up for the problems that this thing has. First off right after I bought the thing Brother discontinued the ink, and here is the only place I can get...

4.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for..., December 9, 2001

I've had this mfc for 8 months now and after reading some of the other reviews I had to go back and check the model number to see if this was the same machine. Lighten up people.
Every computer user should know by now that multi-function machines are strictly compromises. None of the features, generally speaking, is as good as the stand-alone single-function machine. And, when you pay as little as this mfc costs, your expectations should drop a bit more.
I've found this machine to be more than adequate in each of its functions. Print quality is surprisingly good, although it must be said that you go through replacement ink cartridges fairly quickly -- too small.
It's a compromise. It's fairly small and takes less space than any two of the machines it replaces. If you're realistic in your expectations you'll find this to be a good, inexpensive mfc. It's easy to use, too!

I have had this printer, (Or the step lower MFC), for over a year. Let me tell you "IT'S A PILE!!". The only things that work on it are the scanner. It works very well in fact but that doesn't begin to make up for the problems that this thing has. First off right after I bought the thing Brother discontinued the ink, and here is the only place I can get more. Also this thing has to 'Clean' the ink every time you want to print. And this cleaning does nothing for the quality. Every time I want to print a black and white paper it comes out blank. So I tell it to clean itself. After minutes of waiting out comes a wrecked piece of paper that you can't even read. So you spend another half an hour telling the thing to clean itself. Several pages later (and yelling and screeming) you finaly get an acceptable paper. Don't even ask for the thing to do color!!
Also don't even try to do anything while it is printing. For some reason it has to slow everything down on your computer in order to print. You have to wait for it to finish what ever it's doing to move the mouse smoothly again. If you ask me the thing is not worth it.
STICK WITH HP!

1.0 out of 5 stars Fax Only, November 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Brother MFC-7300C Multifunction (Office Product)
We should have heeded a warning to steer clear from multi-function office machines...or at least this Brother MFC. After below-average use, the print quality is poor, with no easy home fix. If the paper runs out completely the paper feeder must be reset by hand. If printer is not used daily, the ink cycle cleans via an annoyingly slow process before each use. The best I can say is the outgoing fax feature works great, which is proof that multi-function machines are fax machines at their core.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tossed my old ink jet printer!!!, January 1, 2002

This printer does everything my old hp did but twice as fast. The color works especially well with the paper I ordered from brother's web site. For the price, I would recomend the following multi funciton machine over the others on the market. I have owned a brother fax machine for many years and have now upgraded to this new machine. The functions work well together and don't see any reason to over pay for a slower hp! Also the fax features are some of the best on the market.

1.0 out of 5 stars Brother MFC-7300C Oh brother..., December 16, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Brother MFC-7300C Multifunction (Office Product)
I've had this all-in-one for over a year now. It worked OK the 1st 6 months or so. Now it prints everything in magenta. After owning this and helping a friend with a similar HP all-in-one I'm of the opinion that these things are jack-of-all-trades master of NONE! Please let me explaing why: This Brother MFC-7300 uses ink like its going out of style! Every time you print ANYTHING the little LCD screen says "cleaning print heads" and whoops! there goes half your ink cartridge. I hate this printer. The copier works so-so, the scanner doesn't do smaller items well because you have to feed stuff into a slot, the fax/phone work OK but if you plan to buy this for your home be careful as somehow auto-dialer spammers seem to find you and tell all their spammer friends so you get phonecalls for spam faxes at all hours of the night once you've been connected for awhile. Even after disconnecting the fax I got calls for months afterwards where I heard faxtones every time I picked up my phone. My recommendation: Do a search for "online fax" for a few dollars (9.95) or so a month (tons less than cartridges) you can get incoming faxes delivered to your email account and also send outgoing faxes via the internet to a real landline fax machine. Buy a real printer, a real scanner, and subscribe to a fax service. Save yourself the headache.

Full Review
I had such a bad time with machine that I gave it away to some one who doesn't know that much about printers, who wouldn't care about what kind of printer she's gets, is just happy with getting a printer at all, not me I want the best for the price. this printer cost too much money, I paid too much for it(299.99 + mi tax)!! from the ink cost to the headaches this thing gave me. ERROR, ERROR, ERROR!!!!!!!! so many errors, like ink error and paper jams too the fact that I had to buy three PCs to get this thing to work. very slow, not even a PC pro I know, could do anything about it!!! So I waited three years too do some more research on all-in-one's, then what I did before. and now I found the right one for the price(MFC-5840CN) and I'm very happy with it.

This is a modified sewing machine.
Slow, frustrating, and poor in quality on all levels, its a staggering achievemnt in poorly designed machinery. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone who wishes to have intelligible printouts, or a machine that can print more than 1 page an hour.

Dont buy this under any conditions!
