Beware - all brother printers come with features designed to maximise your purchase of ink cartridges.
1. They self-clean all the time - even when not being used - wasting ink
2. The cartridges have a clear window half way down which a light source in the printer uses to detect if the cartridge is empty - only this window is half way down the cartridge so it's still half full - put some electrical tape or use a felt pen to block the light.
3. If one of the cartridges is showing empty the answering machine stops working (solve with tip 2 above)
4. Despite their attempts to prevent you, it is possible to refill the cartridges using refill ink and a syringe. Use the end of a retractable ballpoint pen (with the ball retracted) to push in the plunger on the air vent at the top of the cartridge and push the syringe into the bottom ink hole - fill with 20cc of ink at a time.
5. If you get the "cannot detect ink cartridge" message, open the ink cover door and clean the ink fill area with a tissue dipped in alcohol
6. The ink used in cleaning goes into a well filled with wadding that gradually fills up. You can buy wadding refills and you can also reset the ink use counter by putting the printer into maintenance mode.
7. Cleaning the printer head is almost impossible without disassembly of the machine but you can try using cleaning fluid in an old cartridge and flushing it through.
8. Brother don't make ink and there is nothing special about their inks

This multi-fuction does it all! wireless b/g. You connect it to your phone line and it acts as your answering machine, it discreetly records calls. It allows you to route a call if you answer the phone and it is a fax by pressing *51 and the fax will take over eliminating the need for a separate fax line line( it does the same thing if you don't answer routing the fax automatically or sending the call to voice mail seamlessly. Copies of faxes can be sent automatically to your computer as a tif file to a folder you specify giving your OCR one less copy generation to read the document and making archiving all the more easy. Pict-bridge is great with top quality photo printing. A nice spacious touch-screen for controlling it. I could go on and on but I'll stop here and let you know this is the best!

Update (very belated) 4/30/2013: Sadly, the printer head on this machine has clogged - despite it's CONSTANT CLEANING CYCLES. All color heads are affected and only black prints okay. It's almost impossible to get to the printer head on this machine so it's not worth attempting to unblock. Also, Brother won't touch it out of warranty and only offered a small subsidy to a new (more expensive) printer - with the same issues!

The darn machine is practically new considering how moderately I've used it. Everything else works fabulously - even the Auto Doc Feeder! EXCEPT once a cartridge is empty or considered missing - then, "everything" shuts down.

DO NOT BUY! The 795CW is a great wireless printer, scanner, answering machine, voice recorder, and fax machine, that takes various memory cards, a usb stick, and has top-loading!!!! I love this part of the printer!!!!!

However, the 795CW's ink consumption is ridiculous. Brother claims the print head must keep self-cleaning to ensure the nozzles don't get clogged; however, why mus it "self-clean" every time you print, during prints, and on a very busy schedule? It uses a LOT of ink. I've gone through many color cartridges since heads have blocked, without ever printing a color print!! But have to keep full cartridges in just to print in B/W. #$%@#$ Stupid!

Save some money and go to Cartridge World, or refill your own cartridges if you're crazy enough to purchase this item. At $8,000 a gallon, you'll thank yourself.

SMH - Cannot believe they're still selling this item...and for $399.00 Are you $#%@# me?

I've never written an Amazon review before but I feel so cheated by Brother that I want to warn people away from this product. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

Besides the fact that the scanning software is clunky, you can't print in black & white on this thing unless all the color cartridges are full. You have to keep it supplied with expensive color cartridges in order to print in black & white.

What a rip-off. I sincerely regret this purchase and it's too late to return it, but at least maybe I can prevent other people from making my mistake.

I recently replaced a Canon Pixma4200 with this in my home office so that I could have fax, copy, print, scan capabilities easily accessible. The initial set up was easy. Brother doesn't provide a disc with Windows 7 drivers, so you have to download that from their site (which was not difficult, but could have been easier - I'm reasonably good with a computer and figured it out, but some folks would have been left very frustrated) I've tested all of its basic features and it seems to work well. Wireless set up was very, very simple. I am going to keep my Pixma for times when I want crisp photos printed. This lacks a little where that is concerned. For a wireless multifunction machine, I am pleased.
