5.0 out of 5 stars Of my collection, my third favorite!
Brother to Brother is a great album by two of the most honest Christian recording artists of recent years. 2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing.
I usually love everything that comes out by Michael Card, but the songs in this cd were Michael Cards songs sung in Talbot's style, which I don't like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Of my collection, my third favorite!, May 10, 2000

Brother to Brother is a great album by two of the most honest Christian recording artists of recent years. This is filled with sincere, intense imagery with a style all its own, powerful more because of its truth than because of its already-excellent playing. Other than Rich Mullins Songs and Liturgy, Legacy, Ragamuffin, this CD spends the most time in my player. I often listen to it on Sunday mornings before leaving for church, or evenings when I'm doing my homework.

Anyone who enjoys folk-driven hymns or thought-provoking lyrics rather than some of the fluff other artists are releasing will definitely enjoy this album. I would say it is a must-have album for anyone who buys Christian music in order to feel worshipful or convicted; this CD draws you in and then sends you out rejoicing!

Shalom!

I am a long-time fan of John Michael Talbot, and have always enjoyed Michael Card's music as well. I play the music from this CD more than any other music I own -- and I own a good amount of Christian music! In addition, I have bought over 30 copies for our Catholic men's fellowship organization to give out as gifts to our guest speakers -- which makes it our leading gift to give! The music is very uplifting, and the joy and strength in spirit is truly evident. Talbot and Card even SOUND like brothers! I was also glad to see further collaborative efforts of Phil Keaggy, who added his guitar expertise to the production. These are songs for Christians of all persuasions to do what the Lord enjoins of us in Psalm 133 (which is imprinted on the CD cover): "Behold! How good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!" (For us Catholics, this unity is in accord with the documents of Vatican II -- to ease the concerns aroused by an earlier reviewer!) An excellent CD choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Glimmer of Heaven's Chorus, November 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Brother to Brother (Audio CD)
I have been familiar with Brother Talbot's music for some time, but this was my first solid aquaintance with Michael Card. What a wonderful sound in these duets! The music fan who speaks of basic differences in Catholic and Protestant doctrines is correct in what he says, but the fact is, we are called to reach out to all the brothers and sisters for whom Christ died. Seek out whatever is good and beautiful, Paul said, because he knew that God is the source of all beauty. This music is outstanding and often beautiful, perhaps even a tiny glimmer of what the chorus of angels and saints is like! We should allow ourselves to enjoy the gifts of God in others without expecting them to be what we (or even God) want them to be. Trust in the Lord to work out the rest!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a surprise!, May 5, 2000

What a surprise to find out that Phil Keaggy is also on this CD. The recording is very "crisp" and engineered quite well. There are brief blurbs of information about each song that I found added extra meaning to the already powerful lyrics. As a Christian and a musician, I have not found a lot of originality in contemporary Christian music, but this CD is different. It is prayerful and sincere and not pop rip-off.

5.0 out of 5 stars A voice of Christian Unity, May 15, 2001
By
Rev. Mark Klaisner (Oshkosh, Wisconsin USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brother to Brother (Audio CD)
The spirit and the harmonies of these two great Christian recording artists come together in this powerful album. It is about time that borthers and sisiters of our Christian traditions come together to share in the foundational truth that in Christ there is no slave or free, no Jew or Gentile, and in this case no Catholic or Protestant. Brother to Brother is a powerful work of Christian unity that shouldn't be lost in our narrow minded sectarianism or our desire to have a monopoly on doctrine.

Enjoy the music for what it is, as an courageous and beautiful attempt to bring the best of our Catholic and Protestant traditions together in a spirit of Praise to our Lord Jesus Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not too shabby!!, November 4, 1998
This review is from: Brother to Brother (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of both of these artists for many years, so hearing them interperet each other's compositions was certainly a pleasure. Both have an understanding of the scriptures that so many "Christian" songwriters lack, and display an honesty in their songs that cuts deep. I hope that in the future they do an album that features more collaboration, rather than just a group of covers (as good as they might be).

What can I say! These two brilliant singers come together and produced an album that makes me glorify the Lord. They sing so differently, yet there voices match in perfect harmony to produce songs that urge you as listener to glorify the Lord! A definite buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasing to the ears, soothing to the heart, May 14, 2005

I'm not all that familiar with the music of John Michael Talbot, but if you like the music of Michael Card even a little bit, then you must have this CD. In it, the two men sing each other's songs, at times singing together. I was especially pleased with the opening song, "One Faith," apparently one of JMT's songs. My personal favorite Michael Card song is "Love Crucified Arose," and I really wish it had been included on here. Also, JMT has such a fine, poetic voice that I think he would have complimented that song very nicely. Fortunately, my other favorite Michael Card song, "Come to the Table," is included on this CD, and they both sing it. It sounds wonderful.

Overall, this is a great CD to listen to for pleasure, or worship, or to simply reflect on the Word of God. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new flavor of songs I thought I was familiaer with, August 31, 2000
This review is from: Brother to Brother (Audio CD)
This CD was a gift from a friend. I never get tired of listening to Michael Card anyway, but I also enjoy John Michael Talbot.

Its simply amazing to hear them sing each other's songs - new musical interpretations of songs I thought I knew, giving a new insight into what the singer is expressing.

For those who like Michael Card AND John Michael Talbot - this is a can't miss CD!

I enjoyed Michael's style of vocal and musical talent that is very evident and allows deeper understanding of his message. He is very skilled at "Christian" music.
