Brother PE-700II Embroidery Machine / B0013J8F9U

In this video review of the Brother Embroidery Machine PE-700II, I want to show you just a few of the basic things you can do with this machine, right out of the box. This is my first embroidery machine, though I've been sewing for a few years now on a Brother XL2600I, and the fact that I'm able to showcase the basics of this machine when I only received it in the mail yesterday is a testament to how easy this machine is to use. In this video review, I'm going to briefly show how to load a bobbin, how to load the material, how to transfer a pattern from a computer to the embroidery machine, and how to load and change the color spool. I'll also show some projects I finished yesterday, and talk about some potential pitfalls to avoid. (I'd like to show more, but the video time limit is fairly short!)

The Brother PE-700II is a single-use embroidery machine, NOT a dual-use embroidery/sewing machine. The reason I bought a single-use embroidery machine is because it makes sense to me to invest in a separate machine just for sewing, and that way your expensive embroidery machine sustains less wear and tear and lives longer. I've posted a picture of the PE-700II and all the included paperwork and accessories out of the box. The paperwork includes a detailed manual in English, the same manual in Spanish, a "pictures-only" manual for quick reference, and a manual for the USB functionality of the machine. The manuals are very detailed and extremely helpful - if you'd like to see them for yourself, I think they are currently available on the Brother website.

I am new in the embroidery machine world so I found the instructions that came with the machine very vague. Not knowing what in the world they are talking about made it difficult to figure things out. I went online to different websites and got a basic education and can now at least stumble through a basic design. The instruction book with the machine doesn't explain what all the computer-like screens are for, what they do, why you would want to do a certain thing...nothing. I found out accidently on a website that the underscore is used for making a space when using the fonts. Basic info like that should be included with the machine. But as far as performance goes, I love it! Once I got it to DO something, it worked flawlessly and made some beautiful designs.

I have been using my 700II for about 3 months now. With no prior experience I just decided I wanted to embroider and did some research and ended up with the 700II. Glad I did.
The first month was hell. I did just about everything wrong you can do but through research, blogs, comments, and questions, I now have perfect embroidery work.
I do have some comments or advice to newcomers. And this is specific to this machine only as I have no experience with any other embroidery machines.
First, use 90# bobbin thread as recommended for this machine. 60# is the most common and it won't work. I've tried.
Use 40# poly thread as recommended for this machine. Rayon works but it's more fussy.
Adjust the bobbin casing tension. I believe another user had recommended this also and I concur. The bobbin tension needs to be adjusted to match the top thread and "out of the box" at least for my machine, this wasn't matched up correctly. It's easy to do and can literally be done on one practice piece of fabric in one hoop.
Use titanium/gold #70 ball point needles for T-Shirts.
Do not use sticky fabri solvy or any sticky topping stabilizer. Only use non-stick toppings. They say it doesn't, but it will gum up your thread and needle and back-up into your machine causing birds nests. Once I stopped using sticky toppings and stabilizers, my birds nest problems ended completely.
Use a mid-weight cut-away stabilizer for t-shirts. Do not use tear away stabilizers.

I have done probably 200 t-shirts now and I can actually leave the room while my machine does it's work. It's that foolproof. (Although, I don't recommend doing this as a rule)
Anyway, I give the Brother 700II a 5 star rating. I mean 3 months ago I couldn't even spell thraed, let alone embroider logo's, lettering, and designs on t-shirts.

I purchased this machine, refurbished by brother, directly from allbrands. One note about allbrands. I did not have any issues with them. Honestly, I went against my rules and still purchased from them despite their poor reviews. I found that most of the poor reviews on the internet were from people with buyers remorse from spending a lot of money, didnt read the description of what they were actually buying or did not understand how to use the equipment they purchased. (not all were embroidery machines) I called brother and asked if they were a authorized dealer and how to verify a factory refurbished machine. I also expected not to get all the "freebies" listed with the machine. I got those as well and have not had issues with any of them.

About the machine. I purchased this over the 770 because I did not want to have to drag a jump drive back and fourth. Its also difficult to recognize most things on the screen. Dropping files into a window solves the problems of scrolling through a bunch of blobs. I have put 1,372,208 stitches on my machine in 4 months. I stitch items to sell and do custom work. Prior to this I had not embroidered but have sewn commercially. The machine has been superb and I have done better work than people running 6 needle machines.

If you get this machine and you have issues with it, it is very likely your lack of knowledge. I went through this. I did a bunch of single color patterns so see what the machine did on different materials with different stabilizers. I use super inexpensive threads the majority of them are by embroidex with a few coats and clark. I rarely have a thread break. If I do its because the thread flopped back and got hung up on the spool. I purchased a large spool of white bobbin thread off here for $7 thats been great too.
