  • Outline & Scan: This app enables you to select parts of a physical document and scan just those parts into a digital file on a transparent background.
  • Outline & Remove: You can remove selected portions of a hard copy document with a red outline, and then produces a physical copy of the remaining information.
  • NoteScan: Print a note-taking template from the cloud, in your choice of 1, 2, 4, or 8 pages on a single sheet of letter-sized paper. Once the sheet is filled with notes, scan it using NoteScan, and the pages will automatically be separated and converted into a series of JPEGs for easy storage or sharing.

Easy to set up, both with WiFi and USB. Quick printing, nice feeder for scanning and copying.

Only issue has been frequent paper jams from the paper tray. However, only once has there been an actual jam, the others were false errors that required going through all of the steps on the display to open various parts of the printer so it would clear the error message.

Update: The paper jam problem has not persisted. Has operated flawlessly for quite awhile now.

Setup was not as quick as I expected, I only wanted drivers installed and no extra software. They do not have an option for printer/scanner drivers only so you have to hunt through their setup disk to find that option.

Jammed with my first envelope but I finally got it to print one. From past experience I know it will start smearing ink on the envelopes as they print (that's a characteristic of Brother printers) but for now the envelope was clean.

Scanner is excellent. Quality is good. WiFi scanning worked great within other programs.

Scanner automatic sheet feeder worked well with crumpled papers.

Scan to USB drive is poor. It does not recognize older drives and anything formatted NTFS.

And as always with Brother, the print heads constantly clean themselves - it's quite annoying when you're printing several documents. In between documents it stops to clean itself. It wastes time and ink and money.

I didn't like that Brother tried to sneak in other software while installing their drivers. That's dishonest and even though you can uninstall the extra junk, the entries it made in your registry remain, causing boot time to increase for your computer. Yes, you can probably remove these things manually, but why should I have too?

I buy these cheap Brother printers because they scan well and print okay. They're no more expensive to operate than other brands, and in my experience they are no more or less reliable.

I read some not so good reviews about this printer, but most were good, so I bought one. I had absolutely no problem setting it up. The packaging, shipping and value are top shelf. You must follow the directions. It is more compact than my Kodak and MUCH faster when turned on and in use. You have to leave some room in front to pull the paper tray in and out, but replacing the ink is very simple. The price of this printer and the quality is quite good for it's price range. I would recommend this for anyone who needs a home all - in - one printer.

Everything works as it is supposed to. Easy to use. I had a different printer - fax - copier and it continually double printed. I am very pleased with the Brother printer that I have had for one month.

The last printer i purchased was an HP Photosmart in 2007. It was a great all in one but it did not fax...since i fax every so often, I had to purchase a small fax machine, which was just lovely among all the electronics on my computer desk (not really lol). My HP was and still is a very good printer, but being that i was tired of lifting the flatbed to scan & fighting my kids for stealing paper from the ever-so-inviting-to-kids paper tray, I went in search of a more compact printer that had a hidden paper tray and and automatic feeder. Queue this Brother printer. I did extensive research on about 5-8 different printers. My inclination was to stick with what i know, which is HP. Man, am i ever glad i decided not to. This printer is a powerhouse. So easy to set up with my macbook, and i was able to AirPrint from my iphone immediately. The individual color cartridges are a bonus. So easy to install & the printing is very vibrant. Perhaps not the top of the line photo printing, but more than acceptable in my opinion. It prints SO quietly. The wired connections (RJ45 phone jack, USB port) are hidden under the flatbed scanner. Everything is so well put together, convenient and compact! I love that it takes up less space than my previous HP C4580...and after having physically seen some of the other printers i was considering (Canon Pixma), I am so glad i went with this one because its is significantly smaller. I absolutely love it. I want to print everything (lol). Looking forward to many years with this awesome little all in one.

I owned a Brother Printer for about 7 years and printed 100's of photo Quality pictures. After awhile everything wears out and that's why I chose another Brother printer. My children are in middle and high school and we needed something reliable. This printer has WiFi printing my kids print right from their tablets. I am very confident this printer will get them through school and beyond. Considering the price and the options I don't think you'all find a better deal. Not to mention you replace each color as they run out in the long run you'll save money. I haven't had any problems with the printer so far.

PROS: Prints, scans, copies, faxes. Wi-Fi. Automatic document feeder. Prints from and scans to USB memory keys and memory cards.Easy Setup. Easy Wi-Fi connection. You can print from any tablet and any smart phone after the installation of IprintIscan application for free. You can change the settings of anything, great touch screen, fast printing, fast scanning. Automatic Duplexing (2-sided printing)

CONS: Low paper capacity (100 sheets plus a 4 by 6 photo paper tray). No Ethernet.(Which are totally fine). Potentially no Linux support... Haven't fully tested yet.
It has all the same core multifunction printer (MFP) features, including scanning from and faxing to a PC and working as a standalone copier and fax machine. It leaves out more than you might expect from such a small price difference. But if you don't need any of the extras, there's no point in paying for them. The flashiest feature the MFC-J650DW leaves out is near-field communication (NFC) support. NFC makes printing from a mobile device impressively easy. However, if you don't have a phone or tablet that supports NFC, you won't be able to use it in any case. The MFC-J650DW's core MFP features include printing and faxing from, along with scanning to, a PC and also working as a standalone copier and fax machine. The 2.7-inch touch-screen based front panel menu helps make it easy to give commands for copying and faxing; for scanning and sending a file as an email attachment, using the email program on your PC; and more.

If the printer is connected to your network and your network is connected to the Web, the menus also let you connect to an assortment of Web sites. Some, including Picasa Web Albums, are primarily of interest for home use.
