These toners are easy to install. One thing though, after the first warning of these toners being low I take them out and check the little round window to see if there is still toner. If there is, I wind back the gear with a peg on it back to its original position. I recently did this with all three colors as it was reported they were going low. After winding back the gears, the printer performed perfectly for another month with a moderate amount of color printing. Finally, the low toner warnings went off again and since there appeared no more toner, I installed new ones. I have a closet full of these consumables and look forward to many great years printing with these printers. (We have 6 of them)

Hidden Menus for Brother 9840cdw

**Toner Reset Menu - Open front door of printer. Press the 'clear' button once or twice. There are two capacities for each color. It will start counting down from whichever you choose.

**Everything Else Reset Menu - Press '3' and '9' at the same time. Hidden reset menu will appear. Select item, select reset.

This is the OEM High Yield toner for some Brother printers. Do not buy refurbished or re-filled toners from other sources. Don't be tempted to save a few dollars with these inferior toners. Print quality and toner life are not the same, not to mention possible printer damage. Don't be too quick to replace your OEM toners when the printer tells you to. These toners use a timing wheel that count down based on the number of pages printed, not the amount of toner left in the cartridge. There are many articles on the web on how to reset the cartridges. Do a google search on Brother Toner Reset to find an article for your printer.

The yield claimed by brother is contrary to my experience with my printer.

I'm getting a bit less than half the life claimed per toner cartridge by Brother.

Before you buy a brother printer, calculate the ink cost. My estimate is about 20 cents per page to use this printer just for ink when doing color, about 6 cents when doing black and white.

I bought this cartridge to replace the exact same item purchased just 6 months and 3400+ copies ago (both from Amazon), because that exact same item decided to leak all over the inside of my printer, and was on all the rollers of all the other colors. All my pages had magenta dots and big splotches along the right margin. I see other reviewers with the same problem with this magenta cartridge. I've purchased all the colors from Amazon more than once with no problems, and they seem to be genuine Brother cartridges, so I'm not sure what the problem is with this magenta cartridge. New one seems to be working fine one week later, but I guess we'll see with time.

**Update** one month after using the new magenta cartridge it too IS LEAKING ALL OVER THE INSIDE OF MY PRINTER. No recourse with Amazon as the return window has just passed - customer service could not guarantee a full refund. What a rip off. Order these from another vendor.

I bought all four cartridges at once after the originals ran out. A few weeks after buying them, I started getting blotchy red stains all over the right side of the pages from top to bottom. I found that the magenta toner is leaking from the cartridge onto other parts inside the printer. Repeated cleanings and inspection have not solved the problem. For the past several months, I have set my printer's "Color/Mono" option to "Mono" so I only use the black cartridge (for the time being I use a different printer for color). Hopefully, I was just unlucky enough to get a rare bad one. None of the other cartridges have any problems. Other than this problem, the print quality is excellent.

I'm not quite ready yet to spend the $90 for a new cartridge, but probably will try again in the future.

Although the photo shows an original Brother box, what I received was not. They sent something that said it was "Premium" toner manufactured in a "certified" plant. The seller definitely misrepresented the product.

The cartridge appeared to be OK at first. But after a couple of month's use, the cartridge begin to make tiny rain drop type of stains on the print. So I took the tray out and then each cartridge. As soon as I took this one out, the toner powder spilled everywhere. All other cartridges are genuine Brother. I did not even know where the source of leak was. It is not the first time I got bitten by a "compatible" toner. But I thought merchants on Amazon are more honest. I was wrong. The merchant is "toner 100".

Amazon should also be blamed for part of the problem. They put all the knockouts (so-called OEM) and genuine toners under the same item and call it "compatible". So some may be lucky and get genuine replacement parts and others get cheap knockouts and in the end it just confuses customers.

whats even worse, when i was printing my wedding program for my wedding day,
my brother toner ran out, and this is the only back up i purchased, because i did not expect the terrible quality.

If you're going to buy these, I recommend buying them from a company with a better warranty than this one!

OK, this is just silly. A review for a printer cartridge.
What can I say about a cartridge made by the printer manufacturer?
Its strong muscular appearance enables it to out perform those weaker colors such as cyan.
Maybe something like: Brother has a monopoly on these cartridges so you had better like it.
