This review is from: The Sufi Brotherhoods in the Sudan (Series in Islam and Society in Africa) (Hardcover)
this book gives a very detailed edification of the various sufi orders both indigenous and imported whether by way of the spiritual or the political. mr. karrar has indeed delved into the sufi orders progressive spread during the turn of the 18th century and it's spawning of al-mahdi muhammad ahmad ibn abdullah the reformer and leader of the revolution to liberate the sudan from it's turkish\egyptian rulers.it also sheds a brief light on the mahdiyya(ansaar party) and it's political rivals the khatamiyya. excellent book.
