Sulfite Free Dehydrated Fruit ...,
By
This review is from: Brothers-ALL-Natural Asian Pear Crisps, 0.35-Ounce Bags (Pack of 24) (Grocery)
As an individual with sulfite allergies, the Brothers freeze-dried fruits are a real find for me, since I find it difficult to carry fruit with me during my travels. When I realized Amazon was carrying them, I ordered the Brothers-ALL-Natural Variety Pack Crisps, Fuji Apple, Asian Pear, Strawberry/Banana, 24-Count Bags for a variety.
While I enjoy all three varieties, this one is closer to like than to love. In comparing it to the Fuji Apple, the pieces are smaller, and the flavor isn't really a strong pear flavor. I suspect it is because they are Asian Pears, and I am more used to my personal favorite, Bartlet Pears. Trust me, I wouldn't turn these down - in fact I do enjoy them greatly - I just happen to enjoy the other two in the package just a bit better. I first encountered "freeze-dried" fruit back in the 60s as stores carried the kind of light-weight food the astronauts were eating. So eating these isn't just a fun way to enjoy a healthy snack, it's also a bit of nostalgia. Each bag contains approx. 1 1/2 Asian Pears ... and nothing else. It's an awesome way to get your fruit, or to sneak it into your kids' meals.

Healthy snack for adults and nice alternative to puffs for Toddlers,
This review is from: Brothers-ALL-Natural Asian Pear Crisps, 0.35-Ounce Bags (Pack of 24) (Grocery)
These are a nice healthy snack alternative to chips or cookies. I even gave them to my daughter since she was about 8 months instead of "puffs" Any moisture changes the consistency though so in humid Houston you need to finish the pack once you open it.

Great allergy free whole food snack,
This review is from: Brothers-ALL-Natural Asian Pear Crisps, 0.35-Ounce Bags (Pack of 24) (Grocery)
My son is allergic to many foods, including life threatening allergies to peanuts, tree nuts and sesame. Which eliminates many snacks that are run on the same line as nuts and seeds. This line is completely allergen free. The taste is great; they are very crispy and melt in your mouth. And the single serve packaging makes it great to have a fun snack treat that is safe and healthy for him. So far the banana/strawberry, pear and apple are all a hit! These are cheaper than I can find in the store, and the free shipping option is a bonus.

Great alternative to salty snacks,

This review is from: Brothers-ALL-Natural Asian Pear Crisps, 0.35-Ounce Bags (Pack of 24) (Grocery)
I first had these on a plane. It was nice to have something that wasn't all sugar or salt for a change when I'm trapped on a plane. I plan to start buying them to keep in my desk at work. As another reviewer said, they are not crispy like chips so the name is a little misleading. They are more of a foamy or rice cake type texture. Definately good when you are looking for a lighter, fresher snack to keep around instead of chips or candy.

These pear crisps are a great item for "brown baggers". The nutritional values are positive and so is the taste. These are NOT dried pear slices. Hard to describe in words, but light and tasty. And suprisingly filling.

Great Pear Snacks - Highly Recommended,

A friend recommended these Brothers Crisps and I am very pleased that we took her advice! Being a type 2 diabetic and trying to watch my carbs and calories, these are good snacks that satisfy my sweet-tooth cravings without overly spiking up my blood sugar levels. The real test with any "good for you" snacks is if my teens will eat them, and they also love them!
These are made from real fruit (and nothing else) that has been sliced and freeze dried, making them crispy (exactly like "Astronaut Ice Cream") but they will reconstitute in your mouth if you leave them in long enough. This process also makes them very flavorful. Each pack contains - Asian Pear: About 1 1/2 Pears per pack 40 Calories 8 NET Carbs (7 from sugar) We bought Brothers ALL-Natural Variety Pack Crisps, Fuji Apple, Asian Pear, Strawberry/Banana - 20 Count Bags and I like the Asian Pears the best, but all of the flavors are really good. These are a good tasting healthy snack alternative that, if it wasn't for the fairly high cost, I would keep on hand all of the time! Highly Recommended! Note: These are made in China CFH

Awesome snack for toddlers,

These are wonderful snacks...I like them, but I buy them for my 1 year old son.
These are a little expensive and hard to find (reason for 4 stars), but compare the price to Gerber or even store brand freeze dried fruits made for babies...you definitely get more for your money here. Plus the kind packaged for babies are such tiny pieces, my son's outgrown them, and the bottom is filled with fruit dust...and you don't get much more than what's in one of these single serve packs anyway. These do crisp (for those of us with a mouth full of teeth), but they melt away just like the baby ones do, so they are awesome for new self feeders (with just a few teeth or none at all). And I love that there's no added sugar. I used to break them up into bite size pieces for my son, but now he's figured out how to use those front teeth--they're really airy so easy for him to bite. The packets work great for me! I can throw 1 or 2 in the diaper bag and go. If you have left overs, they tend to get a little soggy (reabsorb some humidity from the air) so it's much better to keep the servings packaged separately. Love these, wish they were easier to find.

Good, but expensive,

This review is from: Brothers-ALL-Natural Asian Pear Crisps, 0.35-Ounce Bags (Pack of 24) (Grocery)
I have a 17 month old who is allergic to peanuts and a 4 year old. Both love this snack. It is a very convenient alternative to crackers. My only complaint is that I find them expensive, particularly since I find the pouches small -- my kids typically want more than one as a snack. that is the only reason I give it 4 rather than 5 stars. I brought a box of apples and pears (which I got at my local Costco) to my son's preschool for snacktime, and the teacher said the kids liked them. There were 1 or 2 who weren't big fans, but I can't think of any snack that every kid would like. I have also brought them to playtime with my younger son -- the little ones there love them too and the moms are always asking where they can get them.

Very tasty but packages should be larger,

I bought these for my kids to have a healthy snack on the go and while they are quite tasty, they are small and the caloric content is low (40?) so my 4 y/o who is a champion eater always needs 2 bags or something else to satiate him.

I do like these and think they are a great alternative to most snacks. But there is hardly have any nutritional value to them. Even potato chips have a real potato value left in them. But these have been drained of most all nutrients and fiber! Not so good. Also, the customer that claimed that these are mushy must have left them opened to the air. These need to be sealed shut so the moisture does not get to them because obviously that effect their crunchiness. Even if left open for a 1/2 an hour, might cause a problem with rehydration. It stands to reason, if they acquire their crunchiness through dehydration, we need to try to keep them that way by keeping the package tightly closed. I like to fold a crease along the top of the package after I opened it with my fingernails to make a sharp edge so less moisture can penetrate back into the fruit. It works and it's quick too. Just a thought. These are expensive, so I hope the customer that claimed these are $7.00 cheaper at Costco is right. That is a huge money saver. Thanks for all your information. That was great! |
