Mine is the PC version.
I was amazed by the graphics. True to the other BIA it is historicaly accurate and the creators went above and beyond to assure the detail of the game! Job well done!! The "cut-scenes" are excellent and play out like a movie. By far the best that I have seen for history buffs of WWII and fans of FPS. A standard has been set and others will have a hard time measuring up to a most excellent gaming expirience! I am running this game on a Dell XPS 410, Duo Core, 3 gb Ram and one Nvidia 8800 GT 512 with the addition of a 500W Power supply. The game is maxed out on all details and runs extremely smooth! No problems at all!

The good things are:
1. The new cover system, like Rainbow 6 Vegas and Gears of War, makes the combat much more real and enjoyable. 2. Ordering the team around is easy and fun. 3. Audio is immersive and haunting at times(hospital) 4. Story is an extension of the earlier games. 5. Environments are realistic and beautiful, especially the hospital and HH. 6. Tank sequences are satisfying and break up the FPS action. 7. The action camera is great, love to see the heads explode or the tank explosions. The not so good things are: 1. Story is convoluted and relys on you remembering it from the first 2 games from years ago. Should have released this closer to the earlier versions so people would know what the story is! 2. Cannot skip through the long cutscenes the first time through, I tuned out. 3. Sometimes your AI is idiotic. 4. "Authentic" difficulty level is not that authentic, out of cover you'd still have iron sights. 5. No blind fire from cover. I liked this game overall, it's enjoyable to play. Not the longest game but the replay is better since you can skip through the cutscenes and get to the action. Like I said the story is convoluted and hard to really get that intersted in, but if you're into it, you're probably a Band of Brothers junkie. I wish other conflicts would be covered in videogames though, WW1, Vietnam, Iran/Iraq, Russian conflicts including WW2 Eastern Front, Falklands War. WW2 is just so overdone and now we also have another CODWW2 coming out next month! WinXP 8800 GT Intel Core Duo E5200 4GB RAM Highest settings smooth.

This game had the potential to be the next Call of Duty 4 (except no squad based games could EVER make it that far).
THE GOOD: Graphics look great on my BFG 8800 GTS OC 640; 3rd person cover/1st person shooting for the most part works flawlessly; the story is interesting; levels are varied; squad controls are simple; aiming is more accurate if your not under fire THE NOT SO GOOD: squad AI is okay but has a few problems...sometimes they won't fire when I tell them to suppress. If they are out of range, why can't they say "I'm out of range"? THE BAD: Enemy AI is pretty bad...no flanking, coming out of fire under full suppression, etc; No skipping cut scenes; some varied levels feel like they are put in just because COD4 did it. Overall, this was a good buy. It could have spent a few more months in development to refine everything. Maybe next time.

I started gaming very late in life with a Sony PS One , soon after my sister gave me a PS Two Slim and that's when I fell I love with WWII games. Recently I built my first custom PC , one with a real graphics card and a HDMI 1080p monitor , for the first time I was not restricted to what game I bought because my PC could not handle it. I took a chance with Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway , for some reason I thought this was an old game but it came out in Oct. 2008 , so the primitive early 2000's graphics are no where to be found , this game looks great!. The game play is a nice blend of giving quick commands to your squads , like this; Machine gun squad suppresses enemy and Assault squad flanks in from side and destroys enemy , you can continue to scout out next move or go in run and gun style and take out any loose ends. These are the same techniques that the military uses every day. The controls are well balanced and the storyline is based on real events so it adds to the game that a pure fantasy game cannot. My father and my uncles all fought in WWII so it helps make history come alive in the form of a video game and to me that is pretty cool. Last but not least the install was as smooth as can it can be. I have Windows 7 64bit Home Premium Edition and this game needed no patches or compatibility setting or anything , put disc in and follow the instructions , perfect! Also , this price $5.50 and free S&H ($25. and over orders) is unreal I paid $10. for a magazine last week! PS (my system is AMD Phenom II X2 555 3.2GHz dual-core and HIS ATI Radeon HD5770 IceQ 5 Turbo) Thanks for reading my review any questions or responses will be appreciated. If you have played the previous 'Brother's in Arms' games, it will enhance your enjoyment of thid game. As a stand alone game, however, it is quite good. Having the context of the previous games would help you understand the cut scenes, but aside from that it's as good a WWII shooter as you coul ask for

I've played a lot of the WWII type shooters. Medal of Honor, Call of Duty and now Brothers In Arms Hells Highway outshines them all.
You play the part of Staff Sergeant Matt Baker, a paratrooper of the 502 Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne who along with his squad is tasked with various missions during Operation marketgarden in Nazi occupied Holland. As the squad leader you have assigned to your command 2 types of units that are usually comprised of a combination of a three man small arms assault team, a machine gun unit of two, a bazooka team of three or a rifle squad/BAR of four. Use these combinations to provide supressing fire on German positions so you (or they) can flank and anhilate those pockets of resistance that keep you from achieving your mission goal. Act carelessly and move them into the open and risk losing them to enemy fire, leaving you to carry on that particular mission with one or more less men making your advance difficult but not impossible (you start out with a full compliment at the start of each assignment). The graphics are the best I've seen yet and are sharp and detailed. In some missions you'll manuver through areas such as the interior of a demolished hospital and actually hear pieces of broken tile and debris crunching and breaking beneath your boots. An interesting feature for you fans of gore is that if you make a head shot the scene zooms in on your target and immediately goes into slow motion, the helmet of your victim flying off and his bloodied head tossed back as he is thrown backwards. Likewise for a well placed grenade, bazooka or tank round shot. The bodies are tossed into the air in slow motion, limbs actually severed from the blast and tossed into the air as well. Not for the squeamish or the faint of heart. I've found the AI is not stupid or mechanical by any means. You move forward with your squad and make an attempt to outflank them and your enemy counters your move and works to do the same to you. Sometimes the occasional soldier or two will maintain a position and pop up to take a few shots at you or your squad. But sight in on him and suddenly he gets up and sprints to another position clear across a courtyard, zig-zagging and using available cover all the way. The game follows a story line and has some very good cut scenes that lay the groundwork for what was in the earlier Brothers In Arms games and what is to come as a prelude to your next mission. As usual you have use of a .30 caliber carbine, a Garand rifle, a Thompson submachinegun or a Browning Automatic Rifle. You can only carry two of these weapons and always have available your nickle plated .45 caliber Colt pistol, which a large part of the story revolves around. Naturally any discarded German weapon can be switched out for anything except your trusty pistol. The game also gives you a breather from being a foot soldier and allows you to do a few missions as a Sherman tank commander. A welcome break from slogging through the rain or creeping behind walls just to live another day. Completion of the game in the "Casual" mode now allows you to go back and replay at a higher and more difficult level. Veteran level play eliminates the 'marker' system above the positions of your enemy that indicates not just their position but their level of supression. You also lose your firing crosshair and now have to actually aim with iron sights and look hard for your antagonists. All in all this game was an enjoyable experience and I look forward to another Brothers In Arms sequel.

... you have a weekend to dedicate to playing. As a dedicated call of duty fan, I felt as if I was being blashphemous buying this game, but the price was right. Beautiful gameplay, smooth controls (esp for having so many!). My favorite feature has to be the effective use of cover, very similar to rainbow six vegas... much nicer than just going from standing to crouch over and over. your squads arent the smartest AI I've ever seen, but there is far far worse out there. And ive found there is nothing more satisfying than getting yourself pinned by a machinegun and ordering your bazooka team to blow up the entire emplacement.
Smooth, engrossing storyline... BUT, yes, as some others have said the cut scenes can be painful because of their length. also, some of them are just poorly timed. You will just get out of a firefight with adrenaline rushing only to watch a movie for 3 minutes, then jump right back in. personally it throws me off my game sometimes, but hey maybe its just me. Do not let that deter you from buying this game... its better than most of the 50-60$ shooters out right now, and you WILL get hooked. Also fairly undemanding, I have a decent SLI rig and I am maxed out without a problem. A must buy, Ive already put this game's 2 prequils on order.

I,like everyone else was waiting for this game and for the most part I've
enjoyed it. It was running well on my mid-range machine,E6600,ATI 3870,2 Gigs of memory The only gripes I have are not being able to go prone, crawl and no lean feature. I also find the A.I. a little suspect. There are times when the Germans will move from cover only to move back to the very spot they've just abandoned. Enough has been said about the cut scenes and story line. I treat the cut scenes like TV commercials. The only problem I've had with the game was my fault. I decided to update my video driver when I was 3/4 of the way through the game (can you say dumb a**?). Now I've got an ATI3duag.dll problem that is a bear to fix. I'd say by this game,it could have been better but it is fun. Oh,and update your drivers before you run the game.

Exceeded my expectations. I never played the earlier stuff BIA had, but having an interest in WWII, and also loving BOB and Saving Pvt Ryan, this definetely is one of my favorites. Some people may like the movie part, some may not. I loved it, thought it added an interest to the game others do not have. That was their intent, and I think they accomplished it.
Graphics are great, and you will need a pretty decent unit to run it smooth. Directing your squads takes a little getting used, but makes the game that much more enjoyable. |
