Hans Hellmut Kirst (December 5, 1914 - February 13, 1989) was a distinguished German author from Osterode, East Prussia who wrote many books which have been translated into English including bestsellers "The Night of the Generals" (made into a hit 1967 movie) and "The Nights of the Long Knives" among others. In "Brothers in Arms" a man believed to be "killed in action" back in 1945 is seen by his former comrades. One by one each man encounters the man sixteen years dead. Each man is shaken by the experience. They soon decide to hire an old man, the former chief of the Berlin homicde squad to investigate. The old man's inquiry uncovers some curious facts concerning this man who was "killed in action" and the secret that the "brothers in arms" guard so dearly, that they had spent the night before the man's death with a refugee girl. A girl that was found the next day raped, and beaten to death. Was this the act of one man or the act of all the "brothers of arms"? At the time the war was ending and no inquiry was ever made, it was a matter soon forgotten. Each man went on with his life and now that life might be jeopardized if this matter should bubble up to the surface. Was this former comrade really still alive and did he know the truth about the killing of the girl? What did he know and why now has he returned? For the killer or killers it will soon become a cat and mouse game with the stakes too high to fail. A compelling, riveting and brutal novel that will keep you turning the pages to the very last page. We ship within 24 hours of your purchase with a Delivery Confirmation.
