I just received this album from Amazon.com and what a surprise. Brothers Four fans will delight in the songs on this double album but the sound quality is what blew me away. Sony has done an outstanding job with this album. You would never believe these songs were originally recorded in the '50s and '60s. It's truly amazing how good these songs sound. A great addition to any B4 fans collection!

Music I loved as a child and love as an adult,

This review is from: Brothers Four/B.M.O.C. (Audio CD)
The Brothers Four's debut is one of five albums my sisters and I played over and over and over while I was a kid. Since reaching adulthood, I have been trying to re-acquire these lost treasures. I found The Brothers Four on used vinyl but to have it on CD is amazing. To have my own kids able to hear the four frat brothers is truly a blessing. I know this isn't much of a review, but I tried to make it a proper review -- singling out one song to recommend over others, and I couldn't. I thought about remarking on the banjo work, the infectiious spirit of the music, etc. But to make a long story short, the whole album is phenomenal. And I'm not just saying that because of some nostalgic feeling, since this was among my first exposures to music. As a child you love the music of your parents, then as a teen, you take the popular stuff. Later, you realize how right your parents were. Good music is good music. And The Brothers Four produced especially good music.

2 Classic Brothers Four albums!,

This CD is certainly a great one. TWO complete albums, on one CD. Their debut album, and B.M.O.C. The latter I listened to as a child, and have always remembered the songs. What a wonderful treat to have them again, in truly great sound. All the memories will come flooding back when you listen to these remarkable albums, by the equally remarkable Brothers Four. Their vocal harmonies, and instrument mastery, has no equal. Perhaps that is why they are STILL performing.

Just as people have comfort food, this is one of my "comfort CDs". I loved it as a child and I still love it. Don't know what makes the Bros. 4 sound so good (and this CD sounds amazing, technically speaking). Their voices, their own arrangements - I don't know. I ended up ordering 3 more CDs, each has two Bros. 4 records on it. They all sound good. This is perhaps my favorite one because I played it so much as a child. I listen to them driving to and from work and I must say that I have changed my attitude about being stuck in traffic - don't mind it at all!!! I'm so glad I found these CDs on Amazon and ordered them. I you do decide to get any of their CDs, you will not regret it for a moment.

Classic Folk,
By Old Timer Too (Chicagoland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brothers Four (Vinyl)
The Brothers Four were a group of college kids from Seattle back during the time of the Four Freshmen and other groups. Kingston Trio and Limelighters came just a bit later.
This album contains all folk tracks from the era, including one that is unique to Seattle: The Old Settler (also known as Acres of Clams, made famous by Ivar Haglund, a popular entrepreneur restaurant owner in Seattle). The words go back into the 1870s and it was considered to be the Washington State song for a while. My old vinyl is really showing its age and it would be nice if someone were to obtain the rights to reissue this or offer the tracks as MP3 downloads. Had these four guys stayed together, they may have become as popular as the Kingston Trio. My rating is for the music. The current asking price (over $25) is far beyond reasonable, but if someone really wants this collection, I suppose they'll pay the price.

Fantastic CD from all points of view, it contains a lot of their sweetest/smoothest songs. The B4's Good Vibrations are so "emotional"...in the real meaning of the word (=to give motion) that your soul vibrates with them.
The Quality of the recording is simply superb, all fantastic, clear, very wide front STEREO...the B4's are with you in your listening space. All their CD's are wonderful, can't find the words to define them (absolutely not to miss "Rally 'Round!/Roamin'" and the more recent "Greefields and Other Gold") but this one is just a quarter of an inch higher level. Now turn the switch to "hapiness" and fly on the notes of their beautiful music, back to cheerful days that unfortunately won't come back but that nothing and nobody can ever take away from you. Ciao, Franco If you love this CD, don't forget: "RALLY 'ROUND/ROAMIN'" "GREENFIELDS AND OTHER GOLD"

Best of the Brothers Four,
This review is from: Brothers Four/B.M.O.C. (Audio CD)
The Brothers Four were popular at the same time the Kingston Trio was big. I felt these guys were just as good and sometimes better. I still have the original LP of these recordings. Years later they appeared at a convention hall and my husband took me to see them perform. I took the LP album with me and after their performance, I asked them to autograph it. It's one of the highlights of my life.

I loved listening to The Brothers Four when I was a child, and when I saw this album on Amazon I was thrilled. After receiving the CD and listening to it again for the first time in probably 30 years I still loved it.
