You like rock, soul, anything then you will love this song! Strawberry Letter 23 by Brothers Johnson will someday be recognized has the deepest, soul stirring, magical, fun, hippest, ahead of its time song in history. Just listen to it once and you will agree. It begins as simple as bring out the inner child innocence and fun then without warning takes you into a stellar star voyage and keeps going until your whole being is reborn into happyness of a sense of new love and aquaris generation. If you feel down before you play this song you will be refreshed and renewed by the time the song is over. I can't explain the power of this melody but just look into the eyes of anyone while it's playing it's almost like some kind of feel good drug. Try it you will like it. If you don't your probably dead!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Bought It For Two Songs, August 4, 2002

I used to hear 'Strawberry Letter 23' and 'Stomp' on the radio sporatically throughout my life. Yet, every time I heard them, I was transported to some place incredible. They have to be two of the best songs ever recorded. I could never figure out who sang them or where to get them. Finally, a friend of mine who lived through the seventies (as they were supposed to be lived through) told me who about Brothers Johnson. I bought the C.D., heard my two favorite songs, and smiled the day away. It really is worth buying just for those two songs.

My favorite music is Disco and Latin. The groups that stoke me the most are Kool & the Gang, Chic, EWF, French Kiss, Tito Puente, El Chicano and Malo. If much of this is the type of music you are into, by all means, read on.
As was done by another reviewer, I purchased this album exclusively for 'Stomp' and 'Strawberry Letter'. Imagine my surprise after listening to 'Light Up The Night', and 'The Real Thing', which are even better. Close behind are 'Ride-O-Rocket','Get The Funk Out Ma Face' and 'You Keep Me Comin' Back'. IMHO, the absolute best cut on this album is the first one...'Ain't We Funkin' Now'. Talk about feeling the music.
15 songs. None of them bad. Nine of them are super.

This album has all their top songs and is by far the most cost effective. Other albums by the BJ, while good, have hit-N-miss coverage. There is a lot of replication between albums, but none of them as comprehensive as GREATEST HITS.

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Brothers are back, April 23, 2006

This album contains all of the Brothers Johnson's biggest known singles. In addition to all the familiar hits, there are some lesser known songs that are nearly as good, making this compilation, the definitive retrospective.
If you are into the classic soul sound, this album is definitely worth it.
It is worth mentioning that the brothers are back playing together, and they are expected to release a new album very soon

5.0 out of 5 stars The Brothers are Back, August 27, 2002

I just saw the Brothers Johnson at the Decatur Celebration and they can flat play (In case you didn't know, they are back together performing). Being 25, I had never heard of them, but I checked them out. They played the songs contained on this album and they are all terrific. I highly recommend this CD for those who like real music performed by real artists--those who can write and play their own material. They also said expect a new album from them very soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Special K Red Berries - Great song, August 19, 2002
This review is from: The Brothers Johnson - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Everytime I heard the commercial for Special K Red Berries, I kept saying - what IS that song? After searching in vain at the Kellogg's site, I googled my way to a site that told me it was a remix of the Brothers Johnsons Strawberry Letter 23. The words were provided at the site as well:

Hello my love, I heard a kiss from you
Red magic satin playing near, too
All through the morning rain I gave
The sun doesn't shine
Rainbows and waterfalls run through my mind
In the garden I see west purple shower bells and tea orange birds and river cousins dressed in green
Pretty music I hear, so happy and loud
Blue flowers echo from a cherry cloud
Feel sunshine sparkle pink and blue
Playgrounds will laugh if you try to ask "is it cool? is it cool?"
If you arrive and don't see me I'm gonna be with my baby
I'm free flying in her arms over the sea
Stained window yellow candy screen
See speakers of kites with velvet roses digging freedom flight
A present from you:
Strawberry Letter 22
The music plays I sit in for a few

It's too bad that George and Louis (Johnson) are no longer on speaking terms and I would have loved to experience more Bro. Johnson material. They are musically and vocally talented and great song writers. The bass alone rules. Great material. great musical to dance to.

5.0 out of 5 stars two unit with bang, September 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Brothers Johnson - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
the brothers johnson are two brothers with mad pop in there sound.they could take bigger bands to school with there eclecticness from strawberry23,light up the night, the funk of stomp, get the funk outta my face, the real thing,i'll be good to ya etc... and behind the helm on there early hits was the man himself Quincy Jones and the quality as allways was on point.and Quincy Jones in his albums back on the block and jook joint remade several of there songs. which in it self speaks volumes about the quality put fourth.

4.0 out of 5 stars NICE COMPILATION !!, July 25, 2006
This review is from: The Brothers Johnson - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
THIS IS A VERY GOOD OVERVIEW OF THE BROTHERS JOHNSON'S WORK. THE MINOR FLAWS ARE THAT "TOMMORROW" & THUNDER THUMBS & LIGHTING LICKS" WERE NOT ON THIS DISC. CHECK OUT ANY QUINCY JONES RECORD BETWEEN 1974 & 1989 TO SEE WHAT FINE SESSION MUSICIANS THEY (BROTHERS JOHNSON) WERE!
