Book Description

Trapped in a web of hate with no escape, a young woman discovers her attraction to the man determined to protect her may be her undoing. Will time run out, or will he find a way to protect her before her abusive father kills her?

Revised (This book has been edited from its original version. The changes made are not substantial and do not change the readability of the story.)

When Rowan is awarded a ballet scholarship to Michigan State University during her senior year of high school, her life’s dream is finally realized. Having lost her mother at an early age and being subjected to the abuse of a destitute drunken father, she has known unimaginable loss and heartache and been left wanting for a better life—a life now within her grasp. But with one ill-fated phone call, her life is turned upside down.

Logan is Rowan's best friend’s older brother whose career is taking off as he prepares to graduate law school and move cross-country to the prestigious law firm that has offered him a very lucrative contract. When Rowan finds herself at Logan’s mercy after he inadvertently learns of the abuse she has suffered at the hands of her father, their lives become intertwined in a way neither ever imagined nor wanted.

In an effort to protect her, but with his own hands tied by her unwillingness to report the abuse, Logan strikes a deal requiring Rowan to stay with him whenever there is a chance her father might be on a drunken binge—which is often. For her agreement and cooperation, he will keep her secret. Soon, their time together weighs on them both, and they find themselves constantly tempted to step outside the bounds of their supposed platonic relationship. But there is no point. The devastating fact of the matter is their lives are moving in opposite directions—a relationship destined to die before it even has a chance to live.

The ever present clock plagues them both as it ticks off the days until they are parted. But one all important question remains—after he leaves, how will he protect her from a father intent on hating her until the day he dies … or the day he kills her?

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, but... December 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
2.5 stars.

Okay here's the deal. I actually liked this book. The story was really sweet and the characters were interesting. The problem is this:

There is barely any dialogue in the book.

Everything--love scenes, tender moments, life-changing decisions--everything is told with long-winded chunks of narration. I understand that sometimes an author needs to "tell" to move the story along, but damn! Show me something already! I need some interaction between the characters... some banter, some conversation beyond quick exchanges.

To have a love scene told entirely in third person limited is B-O-R-I-N-G. The reader is caught so deep in the narrator's head, it's hard to tell what is going on other than a long-winded internal monologue. It's very odd.

Oh and the author keeps using the word "taut," but she spells it "taught," which can be super confusing in a love scene.

I would have loved to give this book 3 or 4 stars. I think this story could have been great. If you don't mind long paragraphs of rambling prose, then I definitely recommend this book. Overall, this book just didn't work for me. Too bad because it had lots of potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy & Emotionally Intense With Heavy Issues November 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
To put my review succinctly, Brother's Keeper is an emotionally gutwrenching read that's immensely satisfying from word one. Rowan's had a lifetime of pain in her young life and it's the dramatic change in her relationship with her best friend's brother, Logan, that gives her a glimpse of happiness if they're both strong enough to accept it.

Rowan is an amazingly strong character who always remains hopeful no matter how many times her father leaves her bruised and bloodied. The internal conversations she has with herself allow great insight into her thoughts and feelings and showed a young girl wise beyond her years just trying to find her place in the world. Her shyness was endearing and her quickly evolving relationship with Logan showed how unsure of herself she was but through him she gained unexpected confidence.

Logan is the epitome of heroic. He always tried to do right by Rowan and quickly apologized the few times his careless words hurt her. He was her shelter in the storm her life had become around her drunken father and it felt natural for those feelings of protectiveness to evolve into something intensely steamier. Being able to be in his head allowed the reader to understand his conflicted feelings and desires and made him appear even more admirable for this internal struggle he fought for so long to keep Rowan's heart safe. The final moments of the book were Logan's finest though and were so sweet that I half expected him to ride up on a white steed.

The relationship between Logan and Rowan were extremely sexy in some unexpected ways. Some readers may have a problem with their age difference but Rowan is a mature 18-year-old and she knew what she wanted and what she was getting into so I had no problem getting past their ages.

I would not try to describe the synopsis of this book for other reviewers have already done so beautifully, but I'd like to describe how beautiful this story is...
It is said we have 21 different emotions, reading this will take you there...I laughed and cried, I got sad, happy, I got mad, frustrated, anxious, nervous, got excited and exhilarated and then cried some more again...I deliberately read this book slowly, afraid I will miss something, every words written is compelling...the many love scenes are exciting, tender and enthralling,(didn't even know cooking can be that thrilling!) inventive and sizzling, truly fascinating and mesmerizing!

Rowan, as youthful and beautiful is emotionally damaged, physically abused but has an inner strength and an incredible will to survive, has strong ambition to pursue her dreams. When she loves she loved hard, when hurt is resolved to keep it bottled inside.

Logan, a rarity...loving, ambitious, dedicated, has a great sense of right and wrong, when he loves he loved fiercely. He has this all consuming love and passion for Rowan. They are each other halves, will not be whole without the other, each other true soul mate. I read somewhere each of us has nine soul mate in a lifetime in this whole wide world, we just have to find our way to each other.

Read this, it is heady, captivating, emotionally spellbinding... it was written with the intent to show anguish and triumph...the kind of love that will sustain even the most cynical of us.

I would like to say Ms.Finn has written an epic, which she has, but I won't (being nowadays it's overrated, everything is epic this, epic that) rather, I would say without a qualm, she has written a true Masterpiece!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the perfect story of forbidden love March 4, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the perfect story of forbidden love.

Rowan lives with her abusive alcoholic father after the death of her mother. Her saving grace is her best friend Sara's family. They take her, love her, and treat her like one of their own. As they grow up Rowan begins to develop feelings or Sara's old brother Logan. Logan is quite a bit older and his life on tract for him to become a successful lawyer. The boundaries have been set and everyone is abiding by them until Logan rescues Rowan from her father's abuse.

This story follows the two of them as they try to navigate their feelings and what they want for the other one.

I loved this story. Rowan is strong and independent, but isn't afraid to rely on Logan. Logan is charming, sexy and wants to save Rowan. Brother's Keeper is the perfect balance of heart, sexy times, and forbidden love.

Highly recommend!!
