THE BROTHERS BLOOM SOUNDTRACK,
By
This review is from: The Brothers Bloom (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (MP3 Download)
I don't know how one CD can have so much: the music is eerie, joyful, nostalgic, weird, familiar, reminiscent and new all at once. This is the soundtrack to THE BROTHERS BLOOM, but the music holds up very well on its own. Good traveling music, full of surprises. It is a mystery why the music hasn't been released other than on downloads. Maybe that's not the wave of the future, but the wave of Now. The accompanying nineteen page booklet is very well laid out; it gives you the names of the musicians, among whom the great Jonny Rodgers, Chris Mears, Max Heath and Carl Testa provide elegance, musicianship and innovation. The score is composed by Nathan Johnson, and his musical sense is many things, including vital, sensitive and, most of all, indelible.
The download is well worth the unique musical journey.

This review is from: The Brothers Bloom (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (MP3 Download)
One must truly be hard of hearing if one does not marvel at the score by Nathan Johnson as one watches the Brothers Bloom film. Almost at once it pops out from behind the images; not in a bad way so as to overpower the film, but in a way that compliments it perfectly whilst still managing to cause you to take notice and, perhaps like myself, seek it out for further, isolated listening. This score is a thematic album of fantastic songs unto itself, as well as the ideal soundscape for such an imaginative and hauntingly fun film. There is enough quirk and enough catchy melody to go around, though one will certainly zero-in on track 11 ("Penelope's Theme"). It's not the most downloaded song from the album for no reason -- its a tight little track (running time 2:42) that prominently features the most distinguishable refrains of the score in a subtle, piano-savvy instrumental arrangement that's instantly iPod ready. Other tracks akin to track 11 include #8 ("Double Dutch Queens" - a short at just 1:09) and #18 ("The Perfect Con" a longer ride at 6:43). Both feature that brilliant, bubbly, eclectic, and charming melody that one quickly associates with the character of Penelope Stamp (so convincingly played by Rachel Weisz in the film). Its a marriage of character and melody that you can't deny completely succeeds. Every other cranny of this album is a delight for the ears. Its equiste and light enough to spin while you work on your computer, but surprising and refreshing enough to listen to while you travel, devoting all your attention to listening to it unfold time and again. Worth the $8.99 to download without any hesitation. My only complaint is that I couldn't find a hard copy to purchase, as I like to do with music I plan to keep in listening distance for my foreseeable lifetime. Enjoy. It's a beauty.

Part of The Brothers Bloom's Magic,
By
This review is from: The Brothers Bloom (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (MP3 Download)
The soundtrack of the movie is decidedly what makes the movie such a magical experience. As the other reviewer said, the soundtrack holds up well even alone. The music tells a delightful story that one can listen to over and over again. Hopefully, more people will discover this movie and its charming soundtrack.
