3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, But Somewhat Disappointing.
I ordered this import single after listening to "Parachutes" for well over a year. The 3 tracks here are not bad by any means, but they tend to lack the feeling and character of much of what was on "Parachutes" or the exceptional ep "Blue Room." I would say that "Only Superstition" is the best track here and I enjoy the other two...

The first track, 'Brothers and Sisters,' is wonderful, and so is 'Only Superstition,' but I loved 'Easy to Please.' It's a dreamy Parachutes-like song. The piano is such a beautiful addition to the song. It makes you leave whatever troubles you and go into Coldplay's world, led by Chris' soft trance-like voice. The song, and the other two songs, are gems. A must for any true Coldplay fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is great! A great 3rd album to buy as a Coldplay fan., November 7, 2004
This review is from: Brothers & Sisters (Audio CD)
I love Parachutes and A Rush of Blood TO THe Head. I picked this up off Amazon.com used for a few bucks, and it was well worth the money for 3 short songs.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS: 8.7/10

A wonderful song...but sadly, with a very irritating beginning. WHY, Coldplay? It seriously wasn't necessary? All in all, though, it has awesome lyrics and Chris Martin's voice is as great as ever.

EASY TO PLEASE: 9.5/10

Now THIS is the highlight of the compilation! It has dreamy guitar and piano accompanied by eerie inaudible voices in the background. This should've been a bonus track on a Parachutes collector's edition. My only complaint(s)? Make it longer, and include it on PARACHUTES! C'mon, it deserves it! This is FANTASTIC!

ONLY SUPERSTITION: 8.8/10

Some part of a rocker and a good finale, even though Easy To Please would be better as one. I love the guitar and drums. The lyrics aren't THAT special, but still good. This doesn't sound that much like Coldplay. This is GREAT.

AVERAGE-9/10 *****

THis is an awesome look into Coldplay's early years (1999). And ya know, it's worth the money. Pick it up used...or if you're a die-hard fan, get it new...anyway, you'll be happy you did. As I said, this is a good 3rd album to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic find at a great price, October 1, 2000
This review is from: Brothers & Sisters (Audio CD)
My oh my, what a find. This fantastic single heralds a new band into the wonderful world of british music. A great find. The price I paid is way too much when I look at how much this one costs. Regrets. In any case, that's in that past, what can you look forward to with this cd? Great music is a start. The lead singer has a fantastic voice; he sounds a bit like Jeff Buckley, but he has a Nick Drake feel to him, at least I think so. The band perform marvelously, the music, it just grabs you and sticks in your mind for days on end. Listen to it and tell me you don't hum track 3 over and over at night. What else? Well, when Coldplay does hit it big here in North America, which will be soon, trust me, won't it be nice to show all your friends this massively rare CD? Listen, enjoy, it is worth your time and money.

"Brothers & Sisters + Good Television"

Only now, has the U.S. received the sweet taste of a younger Coldplay circa 1999. You are probably wondering, "How does this relate to the TV heading mentioned above?" Well, in 2002, I bought the Roswell (Original Soundtrack)and Coldplay's "Brothers & Sisters" song was featured. After constantly replaying the song, I bought the EP. To my suprise, it was one of the best Ep's I have ever listened to.

Here is how I rate the three songs:

Brothers & Sisters: 9.8/10
Easy to Please: 9.0/10
Only Superstition: 8.0/10

If you are interested in other great music, listen to the Roswell (Original Soundtrack, Garden State Soundtrack, and Travis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful early coldplay sound, December 27, 2004

I totally love this cd, I highly recomend it as a third coldplay album with parachutes and a rush of blood to the head. It only has three songs, but belive me that every song can easily be compared with coldplay's best songs. I totally love the second track "easy to pleace", wonderful lyrics and a parachutes sound that makes you fly to another place, the soft guitar sound and Martin's voice at it's best (even better than in the last album).
So if you like Parachutes and whant to hear three of the best coldplay songs buy this.

4.0 out of 5 stars only three songs, August 9, 2005
By
Linds (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brothers & Sisters (Audio CD)
I love this CD, and give the songs 5 stars a piece, basically, but since it's an EP and there are only 3 tracks, I have to allow it, as an album, only 4 stars. I personally have loved Coldplay from the start. I think it's very interesting to see how they have progressed musically from Parachutes through AROBTTH to X&Y. They are talented musicians who play simple, honest, beautiful music.

For this disc, my biggest criticism (and warning) is that the songs are recorded on less-than-stellar equipment, and sound much more like a fancy demo than any studio-quality song would sound. With that said, the musical content is excellent. The first track (the title track) is beautiful. I first heard this on the show Roswell, and immediately recognized it as Coldplay and was shocked that it wasn't included on Parachutes. It is a slightly mellow, classic Coldplay sound. Most Coldplay fans will love the song. However, the album's real standout is the second track, "Easy to Please." It is soft, mellow, and incredibly beautiful. It features these atmospheric sweeping sounds layered beneath Chris Martin's broken-down vocals and acoustic guitar and some light piano. It's one of those songs that you hear and instantly drop what you're doing to close your eyes and let it pull you in. The third track, "Only Superstition" is much more upbeat. It's my least favorite of the songs, but is more in keeping with Coldplay's newer material.

All in all, this is a great addition to a Coldplay fan's music collection. Don't be scared away by the fact that it's only an EP. You'd regret that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, January 18, 2003

LOVE IT!! I bought this cd about a year ago on a whim. This cd is well worth what i paid (which wasn't much) and more. Chris Martin has one of the most (if not THE most) unique and haunting voices i have ever heard. Something about him just draws you into his world and holds you there. Any Coldplay should be listened to with a good pair of headphones, to capture every little nuance, instrumentally and vocally...enjoy!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Debut EP, October 9, 2005
This review is from: Brothers & Sisters (Audio CD)
In the liner notes to the BROTHERS & SISTERS E.P. the author mentions a time when Coldplay was working the so-called 'toliet gig circuit' of London. With three successful albums under their belt, and numerous critics ready to call them "the Most Important Band in the World," its hard to imagine Coldplay working so unpleasent sounding venues. Nonetheless, they did, and this short disc is a slice of Coldplay before they were famous.

Though it spans only ten minutes and three songs, BROTHERS & SISTERS clearly demonstrates why Coldplay would become famous. The tracks here are pleasent to listen to, with nice melodies tinged with the hint of meloncholy which would become their trademark. Each offers something different, from the varying tempos of the title track, to the barely audibal atmospherics of "Easy to Please," and the catchy melody of "Only Superstition." All three are good songs, and the EP is nice to pop in for a quick slice of Coldplay without needing an hour to listen to.

Thus it was that Coldplay would go on to bigger successes with their full length albums. Nonetheless, this remains a vital part of their history. In fact, with its more down to earth, less polished sounds, BROTHERS & SISTERS is, in some ways, better than the glossy tunes which they would produce later. As it is, it's a good listen, one which leaves us hoping that Coldply will eventually collect all of their earlier material in one place.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brothers And Sisters, September 7, 2005
This review is from: Brothers & Sisters (Audio CD)
Undoubtedly, this CD is fascinating. Brothers And Sisters (the song) has an excellent guitar background part, and Chris Martin is well Chris Martin, singing well and not electronically supported like many modern artists of the day. Easy To Please is a slower song, that shows Martin's excellent range vocally. Only Superstition is an upbeat song, one of Coldplay's better songs. Coldplay is a skilled band and this EP proves it. Though as great a CD it is, I am compelled only to give it 4 stars because the 3 tracks. However, this is still a very great CD to get.
