Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The deep connections in the Walker family of Brothers and Sisters come to a fulfilling, emotional end in this well-written fifth and final season of the show. Led by Walker matriarch Sally Field in one of her best roles ever, the cast of Brothers and Sisters meshes and clashes, like a real family, only perhaps a bit wittier. This season the viewer notices the absence of Rob Lowe (Senator McCallister), but his ex, Kitty Walker (Calista Flockhart), has a new, much younger love in the quirky Seth (Ryan Devlin). The marriage of brother Kevin (Matthew Rhys) and Scotty (Luke Macfarlane) is blossoming and includes some young new members. Even Uncle Saul (Ron Rifkin) seems to have found his soul mate, in Jonathan (Richard Chamberlain).

As happens with the Walker clan, a new member of the family is revealed--but this time it's not a love child of the departed William Walker (Tom Skerritt). And there are heartbreaks and great, deep romantic connections. Sarah (Rachel Griffiths) finally gets a major story arc of her own in this season, and it's lovely. Her bond is only growing with the handsome Luc (Gilles Marini), and they make a decision on how to face the rest of their lives. Kitty and Seth have a different kind of decision to make, and Beau Bridges, excellent as Brody, a onetime flame of Nora's, reappears in her, and the family's, life at exactly the wrong time. Which of course means the perfect time for wonderful, engaging TV drama. The fifth-season boxed set includes some great extras, like bloopers, behind-the-scenes details, and a hilarious interview with the undeniably gorgeous but extremely self-effacing Marini. Fans of Brothers and Sisters will want to make room at the table one last time for this loving, lush finale. --A.T. Hurley

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Sad September 1, 2011
Format:DVD
I am about to purchase season 5, and just discovered the show was cancelled. This makes me very sad as I found it to be an outstanding program. Superbly acted, impeccable timing, heartwarming, touching, carthatic and real. The network cancelled it because of "budgetary reasons." Found it very expensive to produce. Well, of course...the sickening slew of reality shows makes any quality programming seem expensive. Reality shows are cheap to produce. And as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. There you go, America. Keep clamoring for cheap, soul-less entertainment and that's all any of us are going to be left with. I'll stick to my B & S DVD's, thank you. And thank you, Amazon, for making them available - I now have all five seasons!

"Brothers and Sisters" is a show created back in 2006 by Jon Robin Baitz (a writer who worked on "Alias" and "West Wing").

"Brothers and Sisters - The Complete Fifth and Final Season" features a total of 22 episodes on six DVD's. In the fifth and final season of "Brothers and Sisters", it has been a year since the accident and life for the Walker family has not been the same.

Here is a spoiler-less summary of the 22 episodes from season five:

DISC 1:

EPISODE 88 - The Homecoming - It has been a year since the car tragedy and the family has gone through changes. Meanwhile, Justin arrives back from serving another year in the marines.
EPISODE 89 - Brief Encounter - Luc's underwear ad campaign is the hot item and everyone wants to attend. Meanwhile, Kevin tries to help his runaway teenage client and Kitty wonders if her mother is dating a woman...
EPISODE 90 - Faking It - Kitty meets Jack and Sarah worries that her lie about her age may turn Luc away. Rebecca is back and meets with her mother Holly.
EPISODE 91 - Righteous Kiss - Holly has a breakdown and Justin and Rebecca decide what to do about their marraige. Meanwhile, Saul is afraid to tell his boyfriend that he is HIV positive.

DISC 2:

EPISODE 92 - Call Mom - Nora auditions for a radio show, meanwhile Kitty and Jack get closer.
EPISODE 93 - An Ideal Husband - Scotty has a one night stand with another man and now Kevin feels betrayed.
EPISODE 94 - Resolved - Kevin and Scotty's relationship is tested, meanwhile Justin meets a nurse named Annie.
EPISODE 95 - The Rhapsody of the Flash - Luc's mother arrives to town but for some reason, Luc is not so thrilled about it. Meanwhile, Nora goes out on a date.

4.0 out of 5 stars The last Walker dinner October 2, 2011
By JuliaT
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Brothers & Sisters fifth and, as it turns out, final season saw the Walker clan deal with more emotional highs and lows amd gave us one last chance to spend time with the sometime disfunctional but always connected family. Starting out a year after the devastating finale of Season four took a little getting used to, but the decision makes some sense, allowing us to step into the lives they have created for themselves since. This season gave us some great storylines especially for Sarah (and Luc) as well as Kevin and Scotty. I love both couples and enjoyed seeing them with a little more screen time. The quality of the acting on this show has always made it a stand out for me and even when the writers stretch the boundaries of our expectations the cast always rises to the occasion. It is a pity to see it go, but I loved the fact that final episode offered some sense of closure and completion. Nice to see commenatries on this one, though I miss Ken Olin- I love hearing him talk about the shows he's worked on. The Walkers, their wonderful and often fraught family dinners, and all who attend them, will be missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Until Rob Lowe Left February 16, 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This series is excellent until Rob Lowe left in the fourth season. After that, it went down hill in a hurry. It should have ended after the fourth season. The fifth season is really disjointed with plot lines that seem out of place. Oh, it is a pot-boiler from the beginning, but it's an enjoyable pot-boiler until Lowe keft the series. He brought credibility to an otherwise daytime soap. And yes, you do want to kill the gay brother, because he is a total jerk throughout, but even he became a little more sane when he went to work for the Senator played by Lowe. Watch the first four seasons and forget the fifth unless you have consumed a fifth beforehand and don't know what you're watching.

3.0 out of 5 stars LOVE the show...BUMMED by the ending October 28, 2011
Format:DVD
With such great momentum coming off Season 4, I was really disappointed by Season 5. Half the characters are gone or only show up rarely, and I felt like the show just lost its zest. I still enjoyed watching this season, but not as much as the ones before it.

3.0 out of 5 stars $$$$$ May 21, 2013

This show ended so suddenly and horribly that it left most people with a very sour taste in their mouths. Now two years (almost three)after it left the air Amazon is still looking for top dollar for the last season! If anything this season should be sold at a 75% discount.
