5.0 out of 5 stars Thank God its on CD! March 10, 2001
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
When I first heard this on vinyl back in the late 70's, I believe, it blew me away. A fundraiser for a church choir, I wondered if I found the "missing link" that had both encouraged Dylan to add gospel singers to his bands in the late 70's and, perhaps, even had been involved in Dylan's exloration of Christianity. Who knows? All I know is that these are glorious versions of Dylan secular classics, by an African-American church choir, that make you feel God's presence.

Check it out Dylan fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique March 24, 2005
Format:Audio CD
I bought this after I read a review in Mojo magazine's section "Buried treasure". I knew it was gonna be good, but nothing could prepare me for just HOW good it was. I'm a big fan of soul and old r&b. There is also a big place in my heart for mr Bob Dylan whom I listened to almost exclusively for a couple of years back in high school. This mix is just incredible. When the choir burst out behind Merry Clayton in "Times they are a-changing" the hairs stood out on my back like Bowie knives and I had this orgasmic stab of pain in my guts and I wanted to cry. I thought there is no way this album can continue in the same style, with that same eneryg and dirty, sexy, sacreligous feeling. But it does, reaching even higer points in the ecstatic "Quinn the eskimo" and the heartbreakingly beautiful "My back pages". The only low point of the album is the hymn like "All along the watchtower" which fails to excite me.

Even though I bought this album two years ago it is still the first one that comes to mind if someone asks me to recommend an album. Outshining both the fantastic Candi Staton re-issue and most of the Staple Singers' stuff. If someone knows of an album that ever so slightly resemles this one, please spit it out. Dylan's Gospel by The Brothers and sisters is a must buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply sublime January 6, 2004
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've wondered and hoped this would finally be available on CD. This "soundtrack-to-your-life" reveals the deep spiritual roots and versatility of Dylan's music. I've actually come to prefer these renditions to the originals. Lay Lady Lay is simply sublime.
