5.0 out of 5 stars Top Drawer Higgins!
Though I've always enjoyed the Higgins novels featuring Sean Dillon & Company it was nice to get away from the IRA type adventures. I really enjoyed this very fast paced exciting police story. Keep them coming Jack!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read.
It's interesting to see Higgins move from spy thrillers to police procedurals, but gadgets and strong, clever good guys haven't been left behind. This is a fun, quick read, perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

This is a good novel. It starts out with the apparent suicide of girl later to be known as Joanna Craig. When the villian is set free. Then the dangerous game of revenge begins. Who will win the battle? It is worth reading to find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brought In Dead, August 9, 2005
Like all of Higgins other GREAT books, this one follows the same 'genetic' line. Never have I experienced an author who compares to Higgins style. Every book I can get my hands on by Jack I read. I would rate this book with '6 stars' but your limit was 5.

3.0 out of 5 stars Escapist fare., February 16, 2010

(VINE VOICE)
Detective Sergeant Nick Miller, a featured character in a number of Jack Higgins novels, gets Brought in Dead off to a morbid but interesting start when he finds the lifeless body of a young woman submerged in the river not far from police headquarters. The cause of death is determined to be suicide and the only clue to the victim's identity is the name Joanna engraved on the back of her St. Christopher's medallion.

Miller soon discovers that Joanna was the daughter of a wealthy industrialist with a distinguished military background. He also learns that her suicide occurred as a direct result of her rather unfortunate association with a gangster named Max Vernon.

From that point on Brought in Dead becomes a tale of cat and mouse as the bereaved father expertly exacts revenge on Vernon and his criminal associates.

Higgins does a workman like job in advancing the fast paced narrative to the final chapter's inevitable showdown.

The overriding problem with this book is its lack of realism manifested by the presence of too many unnuanced characters and simplistic, paint-by-numbers plotting. Clearly, Brought in Dead was written as escapist fare and as such is average at best.

5.0 out of 5 stars COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!, June 10, 2009
It takes one heckuva book to get me interested and this book did it! Right from the first page to the last, it kept me intriqued and wanting more. Normally I do not read these types of books, but this one was a winner! Lot of characters but easy to keep up with.

Very slow starting but picks up towards the middle of the book. Not one of Higgins best.
