I am a minister and I like to carry a journal to write down thoughts, notes, prayer requests, peoples names, etc... This carries very well when I am at church or around the office. Seems to be durable. Would like a ribbon in it to hold my place but other than that it is perfect. The color is actually more of a burgundy than a brown. Keep this in mind if the color matters to you.

I bought this journal for my boyfriend to take to Europe with him. It is just the right size and very masculine! The quality of the binding is outstanding and will be able to withhold his journey with no problem. I also love the fast the what he writes wont fade. I reccomend this journal to anyone!!!!

A very nice, quality journal. I purchased it as a gift for my nephew's high school graduation, and he loved it. The leather was high quality and the journal is lined inside with creme colored paper.

This is really a great little journal with generous line spacing and no bleed-through on the pages, even when using my calligraphy pens. The paper is smooth and easy to write on and the construction feels fairly sturdy. I docked it one star (I would have only docked 1/2, but that's not an option) because it is lacking a key element of any good notebook/journal - a page marker. The cover is soft to the touch and it has a decent amount of flexibility, though don't expect to fold it back on itself without some consequences. All in all, a great little item - with a satin page marker it would have been 5 stars.

This little gem was exactly what I was looking for. The paper is high quality and thick enough to use a heavy pen on without bleeding through. The cover is soft & looks classy.

I couldn't have asked for more in a journal. It's cheap, of high quality, and the perfect size. Love it love it love it. I might buy different styles for my next one, but if you are looking for a journal, this is a PERfect place to start.

Excellent for Journal Writing.,

When I first received this journal I abstained from writing it, not particularly fond of the soft covers and how that would translate to writing on the go. When I ran out of journals to fill up, I turned to this one, and filled it in much faster than any of my previous journals. The paper is conducive to a variety of pens, the binding is excellent and lays flat very well, and its size makes it easy to transport anywhere (on the train, at a café, on a plane, in your hands, etc.)Due to good experience I had with this journal I have since bought and used two more journals in this size and style from Eccolo.

The soft feel of the leather binding, coupled with the tent and lines of blank pages compels you to relate the details of your day and personal history. I plan to obtain many more of these journals!!

A very high quality leather journal,
This review is from: Brown Embossed Carpe Diem Leather Journal - Lined (Leather Bound)
I own almost a dozen of these journals by Eccolo and the Carpe Diem is my newest addition. I spent a lot of time looking at different journals in book stores before settling on the Eccolo and several years later, still feel it is one of the best options for a daily journal. All of their journals are the same except for the covers. Below are unofficial specifications I came up with:COVER - The cover is made of brown leather with ""CARPE DIEM" embossed on the front. The color of the actual journal is slightly lighter than what is pictured on Amazon. The cover does not seem to scratch easily or hold marks on it. It should hold up to some abuse. I have had another Eccolo journal for several years now and despite not trying to take care of it, it is still in great condition with little scratching. PAGE LENGTH - 128 pages or 256 leaves if you write on the front and back + 1 blank prelim page at the front and 1 blank trailing page at the back. 18 lines per page (not counting writing on the top line) MATERIAL - The paper is ivory and goes well with the cover. It is acid-free (meaning it will not deteriorate or turn yellow easily) and made of heavy stock. The paper is not very thick and in my hands it feels about the same weight as standard American 20lb weight copy paper. The lines on the paper are a somewhat light color. They are the perfect shade in my opinion and don't stand out too much, but are dark enough for ease of use. There is some light bleeding through to the pages in areas where I pressed the pen down too hard, or when I've used a heavy fountain pen. It is enough that you can easily read what is written on the back of the page. Unless you have a light hand or are using a light ink, I would probably recommend against using both sides of the page. You could certainly do it without a mess, but it just depends on how clean of a look you want on each page. I cut a piece of a manila envelope to the same size as the journal pages, and put it underneath the piece of paper I'm writing on each time so that it doesn't bleed through to the next page. SIZE - 4.75" x 6 5/8" (not quite 5x7 as the description says) Actual writing space (length of the lines inside the margins) = 4.25" x 5.25" THIS IS EXACTLY HOW MUCH SPACE U HAVE PER LINE| (if you were to write in 12 point Times New Roman font). So expect not to get any more than 162 words per page unless you handwriting is very small. The margins are the perfect width to ensure you get enough use out of each sheet and no room is wasted. BINDING/CONSTRUCTION - the binding is sewn in, and separated into 8 sections. This way you don't have to worry about too many pages being held by one thread, and the threads can actually break and only 1/8 of the journal will separate. This method of binding is also very useful because it means you can easily open to any page in the journal and it will naturally separate along one of those sections, so you don't have to break the binding too much to lay the journal flat like you would have to with a paperback book. The binding and threads are also secured on the back with a strip of adhesive. The binding is very well made and the threads seem tight, but strong. I do not have any qualms about the binding breaking and would think this journal should hold up to daily use for awhile and several decades of storage. After heavy use, I do not see any noticeable creases on the spine of the journal where you can tell it has been opened many times. It still appears new. There is no bookmark built into the journal. I find this to be a very nicely-made and simplistic journal and think it would satisfy the requirements for anyone who wants something small and nice-looking. It is not something I would write my Presidential memoirs in, but satisfies my requirements for regular daily use.

I bought this for my 83 year old dad to use in conjunciton with his Kindle and three books I purchased for him. He loves ,as do I, the look and feel of the leather journal. He carries it with him along with his kindle when he visits my mom in the dementia unit. He is using this journal to help himself. Care givers often fail to take care of themselves and he was guilty of that. This journal with the reminder in Latin to Seize the moment or day as you prefer has been a real motivator for him. The journal is well made and will last him for a long time.
