4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not Tarot
Like the other reviewers said, this is not a Tarot deck.

But, as Oracle Cards, they are very nice. The packaging is beautiful and the book that comes with it is also nice (it's written by Amy Brown's mom, who is a specialist in stuff like oracles, etc). The artwork is beautiful and always coresponds to the theme of the card. Also, the cards give accurate...

1.0 out of 5 stars I thought this was a Tarot deck!
I have been around Tarot decks my whole life I started reading them when I was 9. My grandfather read them, my aunts and uncles read them and so does my mom and my siblings, having said that, at best, this is more like an aid to meditation....but if you want to meditate, why don't you try the mantras? This is not your usual "tarot" deck...no major/minor arcana...

I have been around Tarot decks my whole life I started reading them when I was 9. This is not your usual "tarot" deck...no major/minor arcana whatsoever. Pretty box, though. Sorry, you cannot call this a Tarot deck..This is a meditation book with Nancy daughter's drawings. Please do not buy this if you are serious about tarot decks...now if you want pretty postcards, and an introduction (very basic) to a self help book then, this is for you....other wise save your money. If you want to learn to read tarot cards start with the Aquarian Tarot deck...if you want something different go with Morgan's Tarot, or the Xultun for meditation go with the Tarot of the Spirit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful packaging, but..., July 15, 2006

This review is from: Amy Brown Faery Wisdom Deck (Tarot Cards) (Toy)
I love Amy Brown's work and was excited about the arrival of my order. The packaging is absolutely beautiful. I just wish she would have put as much quality into the book and cards as she did the packaging. To me, the cards are too thin and flimsy. The book is ok, but not up to the standards of the price I paid for this set. Too bad there's not some use for the box it came in. To me, as beautiful as the box it came in is, it was a waste of my money. I don't need a fancy box to store the cards in. I'd rather the cards been of a better quality card paper.

Also, the cards give accurate readings, though I would not reccommend this deck for beginners (if you are a beginner, I would recommend Doreen Virtue's Healing With the Fairies Oracle Cards).

My only gripe about this deck is that the cards are horribly thin and for the price paid for this deck, I would have hoped for significantly better card stock used for the cards. This is also the reason why I don't use these cards too often, I am afraid to damage these cards that would to easily, especially considering how expensive they were. This is also the reason why these get four stars instead of five. Had the cards been of better quality, there would be five stars listed next to my name.

However, the artwork is beautiful, so any fan of Amy Brown or of fairies will appreciate this deck as it combines both the light and dark, playfulness and seriousness of fairies.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a TAROT deck!!, January 12, 2007
This review is from: Amy Brown Faery Wisdom Deck (Tarot Cards) (Toy)
This "deck" needs to be categorized under something else besides "Tarot".
I admit I'm a purist, and I'm truly sick of seeing Tarot continuously miscategorized, esp. under "New Age" which usually equals faeries, crystals etc..
Why is it that all "New Agey" artwork, because they are in the form of cards and call themselves oracle/meditative, are lumped in with Tarot?
This is wrong!!
Those who are in charge of categorizing these items please WAKE UP, Tarot is a genre all its own and these half-baked "oracle" cards are nothing close to what a true Tarot deck is, which is a highly structured deck of 78 cards divided into Major Arcana, Minor Arcana and Court cards, with an ancient history bathed in Kabbalistic symbolism and Hermeticism.
I suggest "Faery Art" as the genre for this deck of art cards - for this is absolutley NOT a Tarot deck.
Despite my criticism dearest Amy Brown is a great Faery artist and I respect her work and the level she's taken it in this genre. If you want Faery's with a cutting edge to trip out on then get this deck!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very beautiful oracle deck., September 19, 2010
This review is from: Amy Brown Faery Wisdom Deck (Tarot Cards) (Toy)
First of all, just because this deck is not Tarot does not mean it's not an enlightening and beautiful deck of wisdom cards. I own several Tarot decks myself, and if you look at the information on this page, it tells you exactly how many cards are included in the deck. It clearly shows it's not Tarot, and those of you who are complaining about it, read the page before you buy it. It's not that hard.

Amy Brown is a very talented artist and while I agree that the cards should be more durable and the packaging could be thought out better, the deck itself is very informative and the pictures of fairies are gorgeous. I have found much use for this deck even though it is not Tarot, and I think that anyone looking for a wisdom/oracle deck will not be disappointed in this one.

The art on these cards is beautiful. In my opinion the cards should've been on more substantial card stock because the stuff that was used was flimsy. I haven't worked with the cards much, but from an aesthetic view they are nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great set of the Fey, gorgeous images, insightful sage advice....a grand oracle for the soul., June 3, 2008

I have to say I very much enjoy and am enchanted with this set!

I have over 200 Tarot and Oracle decks and this one is a top fave. The art is so rich and colourful. Just looking at it gives one a sense of peace and calm. The cards are failrly large and the printing quality is wonderful, the colours are vivid, deep, rich and very evocative. I adore the backs! The quality of the cardstock could have been better though, but I've certainly seen worse cardstock in oracles. It's not THAT bad. The cards will hold up fine as long as you treat your deck with respect and love (as you should treat them anyways) and not be rough and careless with them.

The book I was very plesantly surprised with. I wasn't sure what to expect, but Nancy Brown has done a fantastic job imo. Each image is married wonderfully to the text in the book. She gifts you with some great wisdom, advice, humor and things to meditate and contemplate on everyday. I really like the 'prayer' at the bottom of each card description. Some card meanings are longer and more detailed than others, but they are all very evocative and full of sage advice. The book itself is very pretty, a smaller size hardback, much easier to tote around.

I use this deck almost daily and I have so many favourite cards! The Shaman, Night Light, Birth of Magic, Discovery, Green Faery, The Oldest Fairy, Fey (top fave!), Moon Dragon, The Doormouse, Something Wild, Moon Secrets, The Source of Magic, Believe, Dandelion, Autumn and Lighting the Way! I draw a card or cards for inspiration, serenity and some wise thoughts throughout my day. They've been a warm and enchanting friend for some time.

These cards and book doesn't just feel like any old oracle, they feel very special and bonded to me. Alive. They talk right back to me!

The packaging IS very gorgeous as others have stated. Stunning really. I tend to toss boring or so-so deck boxes, but this one is a definate keeper. I never put the deck and book back in it though, these cards are never far from me, usually in my bag : ).

If you love faery and the fey, you will LOVE this set, no doubt about it. This set isn't meant as a divination or fortune-telling deck. It's inspirational and a deck that's a 'friend' to you when your down, just stuck or very happy! I believe the Fey are truly alive in these cards and that energy and light can't help but escape into your life and heart. Do get them, they'll add magic and wonder to the mundane.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Box, Poor Cards... NOT Tarot., July 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Amy Brown Faery Wisdom Deck (Tarot Cards) (Toy)
First; if you were looking for a Tarot deck (Wands, Coins, Hanged Man, etc) this is not one. Beginners, look elsewhere.
Second; The packaging is pretty, but not nice. The same two paintings are featured on the inset of the box, and a single painting covers the front and back of the book and the deck box. it seems little thought went into the design except to make it appeal to a certain demographic.
Third; the cards themselves feature previously released art and that's fine, there is nothing misleading on the packaging to make a buyer think otherwise. However, the card stock is flimsy, and won't stand up to much use without a very soft cloth to use as a surface cover.
Finally; the book and card pair is fun to use as a solitary meditation deck or in a group session. The book and cards are easy to use and help by providing a giude for your thoughts as you meditate.
If the cards were a bit more robust, and the box less of a half-hearted effort this would garner more stars as a treasured item, but it gets 3 for being functional.

the book is Beautifully illustrated with black and whites of the cards and full discriptions of their meanings. the cards are gorgeous, vibrant, and detailed they are a joy to look at alone. the box they come in is nice enough to display on its own.
I want to make this one thing clear. these are not tarot cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think It's great.., May 24, 2006
This review is from: Amy Brown Faery Wisdom Deck (Tarot Cards) (Toy)
I have to disagree with the comment above^^..

I happen to be a very big fan of Mrs.brown and I love this deck.
Yes the pictures are not new but still beautiful to see...

When your a fan of an artist it doesn't bother you to see there art work in your car or your home....So there may be fans who practice reading the tarot who may enjoy this deck..

To each his own I say..
But don't become angry with the artist for pleasing her fans :)

It's how she makes her money i would do the same..
