Product Description

The Brown & Sharpe TWIN-CAL IP67 digital caliper measures a range of 0-6"/0-150mm in inches or metric units, has a 0.0005"/0.01mm resolution, and is made of hardened stainless steel. The liquid crystal display (LCD) helps ensure readability, and an electromagnetic induction linear encoder helps prevent overspeed errors.

The caliper takes outside dimension (OD), inside dimension (ID), depth, and step measurements, where the butt end of the fixed jaw measures one end of a work piece before its upper/lower or inner/outer steps are measured. This digital caliper has a single-value LCD that displays in inch and metric units for readability. Dust/water protection level is Ingress Protection 67 (IP67)-rated, which means that the electronic components are resistant to debris and to submersion in liquid under standard conditions for up to 30 minutes. The LCD automatically switches to power-saving idle mode after 10 minutes of inactivity, and shuts off after two hours of inactivity. A rolling thumbwheel makes fine adjustments and a thumbscrew locks the scale’s position. Linear accuracy meets Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) 862 standards. The caliper includes, and is powered by, one CR2032 lithium ion battery. The caliper comes in a suited plastic case.

Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, and machining. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. Vernier, dial, and digital calipers give direct and accurate readings and are functionally identical, having a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, and another jaw with a movable pointer that slides along the scale. The vernier caliper has a scale sliding parallel to the main scale for an additional, fractional reading to improve measurement precision. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The digital caliper takes a differential by zeroing the display at any point along the slide, with an LCD that displays a single value in English and/or metric units.

Brown & Sharpe manufactures precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools. The company, founded in 1833, is headquartered in North Kingstown, RI.

For a nice, smooth, and accurate caliper for a decent price, this is hard to beat.

Very repeatable results and very full featured.

I haven't been able to utilize the wireless or wired links yet, as they are relatively hard to find. But if they do what they say they do, I may pick up a wireless link to record measurements for record keeping and determining process capabilities between proposed changes of operations.

The display is huge, the only tradeoff to that is that the head is a bit large accordingly and takes some time to get used to (will feel "clunky" to folks coming from dial calipers or scaler mitutoyos).

I like it and have confidence in the measurements, which means a lot.

This is a great tool. Lightweight and accurate. But, I like my Mitutoyo calipers more than these. You can't beat the look and feel of Mitutoyo and the "absolute" feature is the only way to go...

I use digital calipers for my work. When my last one went "toes up" I checked out Amazon. Usually the king of great pricing and great deals. This is neither. My local auto parts store had a digial caliper for less than $50. Looks the same to me.
Save your money for something "funner"!
