5.0 out of 5 stars Great hearing protection at a great price
I wanted electronic hearing protection with as much noise reduction level as possible... as I recall these offer 28db vs. 19db for many of them. You can hear perfectly (or better than that) when things are quiet, but as soon as the shooting starts, it shuts down and works great. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not what's advertised
First off, my husband loves his Browning Midas electronic hearing protection. His hearing isn't sensitive and it does the job. My main complaint is that Browning advertises the muffs as 32db nrr. The box is clearly marked 28db nrr and, when contacted, Browning readily admits they don't make a 32db. The muffs are comfortable and work as well as any other 28db pair,...

I can't imagine that the $300 muffs could be very much better. Very pleased.

The muffs are comfortable and work as well as any other 28db pair, except the electric hearing protection has a slight delay that really hurts sensitive ears. If you've got great hearing and want to keep it that way, either buy the very expensive 32db nrr models produced by others or stick with the non-electronic models. If your hearing is already shot, you'll love them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Hearing Protection, January 1, 2010

I love these. I use them in an indoor range and for target shooting outdoors. I've used these when firing a 9mm Glock, a .22 semi-automatic and a .38 special. When I'm done, I can't even tell I've been shooting. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Small, June 3, 2011

These were too small for me. They seemed to provide good hearing protection and I would have used them; however, they simply would not fit (even without a hat on).

Amazon was great about the return.

3.0 out of 5 stars Provides basic protection, May 18, 2011

We bought two of these headsets in anticipation of a four-day shooting class. I had only used passive (non-electronic) headsets in the past. These headsets did cut down considerably on the gun blasts, and allowed us to hear the instructors and other students, but had several issues. After a blast, it seemed like a second or two before the microphones re-activated, so you could hear people talking. Also, they do not automatically turn off (say, after an hour), so it is easy to forget and leave them on overnight, running down the batteries. Finally, they seem a little heavy after a couple of hours on the range. I don't have experience with other units, so can't compare them with other electronic ear protectors, but I would certainly check out others before purchasing more of these.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing! Terrible sound, did not field test., January 11, 2011

My husband and I bought a pair of these and a pair of Howard Leight Impact Sport Electronic Earmuffs. It was difficult to put the batteries into the Browning unit, and while doing so, the headset partially came apart. We tried them out by listening to the conversation of 3 people on our deck outside. The Howard Leight ones had no distortion; the sound quality was excellent and the speakers' voices sounded exactly as they did without the hearing protection. However, when wearing the Browning product, voices sounded as if they were coming from inside a tin can. This was very disconcerting and disappointing, especially after experiencing the perfect sound quality of the other headset. Discouraged by this factor, as well as overall disappointment in the quality of the Browning product, we didn't go out shooting to test them further. IF one can get past or ignore the horrible sound quality, it's possible (probable?) that the Browning would function well. As lifelong Browning owners, we expected much better quality from Browning, especially since it cost about $11 more. Comparing these two headsets side by side, the Howard Leight shows quality workmanship and terrific design. The Browning looks like its poor cousin ~ the quality is just NOT THERE. And yes, we just ordered another set of Howard Leight Impact Sport Electronic Earmuffs.

I bought these to allow my 7 year old son to shoot with me. He loves to shoot but the noise of the 12 gauge and .243 scared him. I ordered two pair to see how the work and allow both of us to have some protection. They felt good right out of the box. I installed the batteries, which was much easier than other models I have had in the past. Turned them on and I would compare them with some of the 200+ dollar pair i have borrowed in the past. Noise amp is good reaction time is great. They fit me as well as my 7 year old really well. They are not heavy, nor are they uncomfortable. As a summary, very good quality muffs with very good function. I would recommend them to anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Midas Electronic protection, May 10, 2011

Pros: It does work even if it leaves much to be desired.
Cons: Mono rather than stereo. Cuts out badly which defeats the purpose of electronic protection. Despite it's NRR rating it does work as well as some models with a lower rating. I wouldn't recommend this items to my friends. Still looking for a better model.

4.0 out of 5 stars Browning Midas Electronic Hearing Protection, January 6, 2009
This review is from: Browning Midas Electronic Hearing Protection (Sports)
Product came in a timely manner, was packaged new, and was as described.

One issue, although the package was as new, the ear protection device was missing the volume knob. The volume can still be adjusted, but it is obvious that the knob cover was missing.
