This review is from: Bruce Coville, 4 Vols., Boxed (Paperback)
Bruce Coville has captured my attention since I was able to read. He paints such beautifully vivid pictures that you can't help but fall into the worlds that he creates. The books in this set are such fine examples of Mr. Coville's work that it's going to be hard to cram into 1000 words.
"Goblins in the Castle" takes a young boy and throws him into the bowels of a castle infested with putrid goblins. His only friend, a rather large humpbacked fellow who refuses to be separated from his teddy bear.
"Jennifer Murdley's Toad" is a part of the magic shop series that throws a girl with a slight weight problem into the world of the magical. She has very low self esteem and has problems at school when she meets one Mr. Elives. She then is thrown into the adventure of a lifetime when she walks out of Mr. Elive's shop with a talking toad who's got a longer story then most grandparents. However it is far more interesting then most of those stories.
"Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher" is another magic shop series book. This one has the title character finding himself with the responsibility of hatching and caring for a dragon. One that grows fairly quickly.
Finally "The Monster's Ring". This is also a magic shop series book. Here we find a young boy come into possession of a ring. This isn't just any ring though, it has mystical powers unknown. We won't find ot what they are until he puts the ring on. Then, as they say, 'it will hit the fan'.
