4.0 out of 5 stars Springsteen's Jukebox... but I like it, too
I was under the impression when I bought it that Springsteen and perhaps the E Street Band were covering these great songs. I was disappointed when I realized these were the original recordings, NOT Springsteen covers. On the other hand, Springsteen and I are almost exactly the same age, so when I started listening to this I didn't pull if off my CD player in disgust as...

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Deception
I've had this in my shopping cart for weeks trying to find out what the heck it is. Amazon is selling something here that is apparently deceptive. No track listing, no information, just a title. Thanks but I don't need another copy of Proud Mary by CCR. Now it is "out of stock" which may be code for Bruce has his lawyers workin' on it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bruce Springsteen appears to have nothing to do with this CD, October 1, 2009

I received the CD yesterday and I'm sending it back. Bruce Springsteen appears to have nothing to do with this CD, other than having his picture appear in numerous places. Bruce Springsteen did not pick the songs out that appear on this collection, as far as I can tell. The only thing that connects this CD to Bruce Springsteen is the publisher's or author's research that indicates in the booklet that Mr. Springsteen listened to a particular song and an opinion as to why it was of influence. The booklet is not written by Springsteen, so it is all conjecture in my opinion. Many music fans already have these songs in their collections. The tracks were not listed on the the Amazon descriptive page and would have provided insight if they were listed as to track and artist and given way the true nature of this collection.

I was under the impression when I bought it that Springsteen and perhaps the E Street Band were covering these great songs. I was disappointed when I realized these were the original recordings, NOT Springsteen covers. On the other hand, Springsteen and I are almost exactly the same age, so when I started listening to this I didn't pull if off my CD player in disgust as the previous reviewers apparently did. I couldn't take it off the player. I was grooving too hard. I downloaded it to my iPod and blasted it in my car like I was 16 again. I probably do have other records with all these songs, if not these precise recordings, on them. Nonetheless, revisiting these songs was a tremendous treat to me. I agree that the marketing of this CD is deceptive. I don't know what, if anything, Springsteen had to do with this compilation. I'm sure these songs did influence him, as they certainly did me. I'm surprised that no recordings by Van Morrison, Ray Charles, or the Doors, obvious influences on Springsteen's vocal development and stage act, are not included. Females, too, are conspicuous by their absence. There's no way Bruce missed or wasn't influenced by Ike & Tina Turner, The Supremes, or Etta James. I suppose there's a limit to what you can include on something like this. Bob Dylan has released several CDs of songs he played on his Xm radio show. I think perhaps that's what drove this collection. The difference is, Dylan's tracks are very unusual and hard to find. The tracks on Springsteen's Jukebox are, for the most part, readily available elsewhere. In short, these are phenomenal performances of fabulous songs. If this was not what I was expecting, I'm still certainly enjoying it. It's a welcome addition to my huge collection of CDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Collection Of Songs From Which The Boss Took His Inspirations, November 19, 2010
This review is from: Bruce Springsteen's Jukebox (Audio CD)
From Robert Johnson and Woody G to Phil Spector - and all bases in between - this is just a really nice collection of songs and listening to it as a whole makes you appreciate what Bruce took from where - it's like being at a preview of his record collection - a fabulous listening experience and highly recomended.

This has NOTHING to do with Bruce. Somebody decided he liked these songs and sold it as if he was doing covers. You can see from the listing that his name appears on the credit. This was some old songs you can buy at Walmart for $2! Amazon should remove this offering or make it clear BRUCE is no where near the recordings.

A confession up front:I haven't listened to this "offering"but I've heard all this stuff other places.I wouldn't be too surprised to learn that Springsteen was influenced by these songs-cripes!!!!-so was I and a lot of other people.HOWEVER,I also know He was tremendously affected by Mr. Orbison and that omission delegitimizes this compilation and makes it seem a lot more like the sleezy come on that some of the other reviewers are objecting to and I join them in that.

1.0 out of 5 stars No More Bruce for Me, September 22, 2009
This review is from: Bruce Springsteen's Jukebox (Audio CD)
Followed Bruce, no promoted and supported Bruce, for over 30 years, always hoping to find him in a NJ bar or restaurant to thank him. Finally got my chance recently in a Red Bank NJ bar. Bought him a drink which he accepted and thanked him for the years and for the tribute he gave to a friend of mine lost in the 9-11 WTC tragedy. All I asked for was a cell phone photo in return for my wife who followed him over 30 years as well. He refused this 50+ year old fan, said he couldn't and left the bar. But not before posing with every blonde under 25 in the bar. No more Bruce CDs or video's for me. He's forgotten the fan. He's become irrelevant. My suggestion to all is go buy a Keith Urban CD and go see one of his shows. Here's a guy who lives every day for the fan and you can see the smile it brings to his face to connect with them. Give your support to someone who appreciates it and gives it back.
