5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written study guide or reference source
Bruce & Stan have done a great job. Using the "Idiot's Guide to..." scheme, they have created a great summary of the Christian faith and its basic doctrines. I have used this book for teaching high school guys, but it would be great for any seeker or disciple who wants a good study of the foudations of the faith. Let me start by saying that I am a *HUGE* fan of Bruce and Stan's work...that is why I was so disappointed by their "Guide To God". True to form, it contains the same easy lessons and self-deprecating humor that has made the other books so wonderfully entertaining and popular, but the content is -- to put it simply -- very dull. This book provides good Scriptural basis for the statements made, defines "churchy" and theological terms for easy understanding, and provides listings of other great resources for deeper reading at the end of each chapter. I am very impressed with this book and plan on using it to lead basic doctrine and seeker studies for years to come. It takes the least common denominators of Christianity, boldly standing for the faith that is expressed specifically in Scripture, provides the basics of the different sides of debatable topics, and leaves further discovery to the reader. Great for interdenominational studies, for sure. I would recommend it to anyone who is curious about Christianity or who had know Christ for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relax people..., April 21, 2000
This review is from: Bruce and Stan's Guide to God (Paperback)
Enough about the title! This is an outstanding book with a straight forward and, dare I say it, "user friendly" format. Unbutton your top button on your shirt and just focus on what God had them do. For all we know He ordained the title. Folks, this is a great book to explain those little things we have a hard time talking about and reminding ourselves about why we follow Christ. Get past the subtitle and into the book. Also, use it with a Bible... :o)

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Is Great!!!!, October 15, 2000

I have read this book three times, given it to new believers, and used it in Bible studies as well. This guide is perfect for any level of believer! It provides examples for everyday life, encourages readers to think of God in modern terms, and re-emphasizes basic truths for more mature believers. I love this series and look forward to more books covering topics such as Prayer, Worship, God's promises, etc. I'd also like to see more books for teens on dating, relationships, etc. Bruce and Stan have done a great job at portraying the real-ness of God!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent content, bad choice of subtitle, November 17, 1999

This review is from: Bruce and Stan's Guide to God (Paperback)
I have to agree with the other reviews shown here. I am using the book with my adult Sunday School class and we have all learned a lot. The topics are well documented biblically and ordered well. I do have the same problem as one of the other reviewers, however, with the subtitle "A User-Friendly Approach". While this subtitle may be appropriate for their "Guide to the Bible", we do not 'use' God (quite the opposite, actually). It may seem picky to some, but I think there is the possibility that it could turn some potential readers away, and that would be a shame. This is an excellent book for people new to their faith or those that need a refresher. I whole-heartedly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Christians of all types (especially new ones), June 19, 2000

This book takes a wonderful approach of explaining God beyond the bounds of denomination. Being a newer Christian, I often got confused on what God does and doesn't do, when is the rapture, etc. This book breaks each topic down and explains the different views on each topic and why different denominations have these views. It was extremely helpful! Definetly recommended for anyone who is new to Christianity and trying to figure out which denomination they believe! Also has very handy Bible references to supplement the reading and see where the authors are coming from

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Very well researched and easy to understand!, August 3, 1999
This review is from: Bruce and Stan's Guide to God (Paperback)
Perfect for a small study group and new believers. It takes the mystery out of Christianity. We, here in Illinois, in our small study group, thank God for Bruce & Stan.

The book itself doesn't actually reveal anything that even the "youngest" Christian doesn't know, though people who are relatively new to the concept of the Lord might benefit from it. Unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy reading it as I did "Real Life Has No Expiration Date" and "Guide to The Bible". Truthfully, the authors' attempt is noteworthy, but the overall result isn't anything special.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bruce and Stan's Guide to God (Paperback)
When I first had purchased this book my attention was that this was going to be a good present for my boyfriend. The book stated that it was in new condition at a very reasonable price so I ordered it. Upon receiving the book, The book was in used condition! Not only was the cover of the book covered with black goo to show that this gift couldn't possibly be new but I was very disappointed that I couldn't even give this book to my boyfriend for his birthday. It should have stated that the book was USED. Therefore, I would have never ordered the book in the first place. I wish it hadn't turned out the way it did, I don't mean to put the seller in a bad position. Just hope that the seller in the future will make sure they are accurate about the quality of his or her products that are being sold.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Others Were Better..., September 11, 2002

I really enjoyed the previously work by Bruce and Stan like "Guide to the Bible", "Real Life Has No Expiration Date", etc., but I can't help but whine a bit about this particular book because it wasn't really all that fascinating. They try to cover a lot of ground in it, which is nice, but tends to be distracting to the matter at hand. Unfortunately, Bruce and Stan are still clinging to the old teachings and doctrine (for example, they still believe Moses wrote the Torah, that Satan was once an angel, that there was an angelic fall, and so on and so forth...) and this tends to spoil the overall enjoyment of the book as most of the older information lacks sufficient evidence and support. Still, it might be useful to younger people discovering God or anyone who is curious about the subject in general.

1.0 out of 5 stars BIG problem with the format, May 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bruce and Stan's Guide to God (Paperback)
While I actually agree theologically with much of the content of the book. I have a HUGE problem with a "User Friendly" approach to God. I'm sorry, but God is not a computer or a piece of machinery. Jesus was not "User Friendly". To quote Proverbs: "To conceal a matter is the glory of God, to search out a matter is the glory of kings." God wants us to have to SEARCH, not find easy answers in a 'user friendly' model. My issue isn't with the content but the whole 'consumer' approach to Christianity.
