FINE PERFORMANCE OF DOUBLE CONCERTO!, October 14, 2007
This review is from: Bruch: Concerto Pieces for Cello & Orchestra (Op. 47, 56, 61, 55) / Double Concerto for Clarinet. Viola, and Orchestra, Op. 88 (Audio CD)
I first became acquainted with the Bruch Double Concerto for Clarinet and Viola some 15 years ago when there was just one recording available on vinyl which did not identify the soloists, orchestra or conductor. It is wonderful to have so many recordings available now on compact disc, for this is one of Bruch's "neglected" masterworks for a unique combination of instruments. Live performances of this work present balance problems, so it is best to hear this work in a recorded format.
This bargain priced cd of some of Bruch's more famous works includes what I consider to be one of the best recorded performances of the double concerto. The soloists are outstanding and are well supported by this superb sounding orchestra. You cannot go wrong with the low price and high quality of this cd!
