There are no shortage of fine recordings of Bruckner's Mass In E Minor, but this Russian recorded one is one of the very best.
The real interest here however, is the only currently available recording of the early Mass in C Major for Alto solo, two horns and organ. What a delight ! The melodic charm and the great, perfectly judged simplicity of the instrumentation are a deeply moving combination. (Although it would be fascinating if someone would create a realization of the organ part for string orchestra so this charmer could be more widely heard.)
The two Christmas songs for alto and organ are likewise delightful.
Ludmilla Kuznetsova is the superb Alto soloist.
The sound recording is excellent, and the liner notes are up to Chandos' high standards.

There are several terrific recordings of Bruckner's sacred music but this one is exceptionally good. It is clear, powerful, moving and just plain beautiful. Highly recommended.

Bruckner: Masses and Songs is a recording under the direction of Valeri Polyanski who leads the Russian State Symphonic Cappella and the Russian State Symphony Orchestra. Jeremy Siepmann has written the music notes. I absolutely loved this recording and being a devout Christian I enjoyed every single second of it. It is such a sweet cover with a wee baby being fondled by its mother. The lyrics are available in English, German, Latin and French. Highly recommended indeed. 5/5.
