Equipped with a working front loader and backhoe, this colorful tractor from Roadmax offers the industrious toddler a multifunctional vehicle that looks just like the full-size version they might see working along the highway. Made of sturdy plastic in bright primary colors, the tractor measures approximately 26 inches long when both the front loader and backhoe are fully extended. Both buckets can be used to dig and scoop, and once they are raised you can lock them in place to carry dirt, rocks, or toys across the back yard or playroom. My 4 year old son got this toy for Christmas, and has not stopped playing with it since. It is very durable and has very bright colors. I have not seen another tractor colored like this before. He and his twin brother love scooping up dirt with it. This would be a terrific toy for any little boy who loves tractors!!

Our 17mo son loves this thing. He's infatuated with excavators ("Dump!" "DUMP!"), and this backhoe fits the bill with its authentic digger articulation. We tried another that was more of a front-loader, but he rejected it as it did not have the Proper Scooping and Dumping Action he required. Our fault, duh. This one has very realistic excavator movement on the rear digger.

The design is realistic, and well done. It's plastic, and doesn't feel very tough, but it has proven durable so far. It gets unceremoniously dragged around by its backhoe bucket, has been trashed at the beach, etc, and it's holding up just fine. It's not old-steel-tonka-tough, but it's ok.

The front bucket moves up and down and pivots forward to dump. Both buckets will stay up, to drive around with something in them. An important feature.

The tires are soft RUBBER. I cannot emphasize enough just how nifty this is, particularly if you have wood floors.

The cab opens up to put a driver inside. Playmobil people work pretty well.

Bruder backhoe for the win!

*** Update 1/2010: I finally killed this thing after over a year of good play. I stepped on it in the dark (crunch). The wheel hub is broken, possibly fixable with creative zip ties. Until now it's been a great toy, the only problem being that the detent-nubs on the rear digger arm wore down, so the arm doesn't stay up by itself very well.

My 3 yr old son received this toy last year for Christmas and was so excited. In less than a week, one of the rear wheels cracked in half, rendering it a non-returnable piece of junk.
