Bagpipe Music that MOVES YOU!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bruhuhaho (Audio CD)
MacUmba's new album is better than the first . . . pure dead brilliant!! Never thought I would hear anything better than the first album. If you like pipe music this has a whole different beat. Caribean drumming with the blood curling skirl of the pipes.

"Don't Hold your Breath" the first Mac Umba CD, made its debut on my favorite Austin based radio station. The call board lit up like they were giving away a car. Everyone wanted to know what that sound was. If you haven't heard it--it's bagpipes and samba drums. The announcer ended up changing his setlist and just playing the whole CD and for a long while, Mac Umba was top of their request list.
Mac Umba is different, it's danceable, and it's world fusion music at its best. If you like either Celtic or samba, this is definitely a CD you should give a listen to. I have both Mac Umba CDs and very much enjoy them.

A wonderful follow-up to their first album -- featuring more of what makes their music great. Bagpipes and steel drums, loud with a fast rhythmn, makes you want to jump up and move. Think techno, but with a scottish/samba flavour. Everyone I've ever played this for has listened politely for the first few seconds (thinking 'oh, yeah, bagpipes....god help me...'). Then the drums kick in and pow! They love it. Their first album had vocals, this one doesn't. That's neither better nor worse, just a difference.

I found this music, enjoyable.Very heavy on the drums and good bagpipes, similar to what you would hear in a parade. The last two tracks I thought were the best. Some sounds I thought were corny. Although classified as folk, could probably be appreciated by people who like new age. (like myself). The previous album(Don't hold your breath)is pretty much the same, (but slightly better) with the exception or a couple of songs. I think this band has great potential, if it caters to the New Age crowd. Needs to expand more on the drums and get rid of corny sounds. Will buy future albums for sure.

These guys are the voodoo shamans of bagpipe music. Who would have thought that Carribean beats could sound so good with the pipes? Anybody who listened to and loved Afro Celt Sound System can appreciate Mac Umba's works.

This is an excellent blend of sound sensations. Forget the 'best if used by' date, this product is best if listened to LOUD!
