great recipes but little page appeal, September 27, 2010
I have made over 50 recipes over 15 years from this book and was thrilled to see I could get a version that was not in tatters. Alas, it has been reprinted in unappealing 4 X 7 size with few inspiring pictures.

Found It!, November 22, 2011
This review is from: Brunch Cookery (Paperback)
This is a great brunch cookbook which I had used many times in the past, however, the last time I looked for it, I couldn't find it. I went to Amazon and was so thankful that I was able to order it there. Everybody said make your quiche and I couldn't find the recipe. I nearly hugged the book when it came. If you entertain, and especially if you do brunch you must have this book.

Best Brunch Book Ever!!!, August 14, 2011
This review is from: Brunch Cookery (Paperback)
This is an awesome brunch book. As a lover of vintage cookbooks, this one will be with me for a looooong time. The pictures are great, and the book opens with brunch menus and recipes for different occasions, i.e. "Brunch for the Bridge Club", "Easter Brunch", "Apres Ski Brunch", etc. The rest of the book is organized like a typical cookbook, with Beverages and Appetizers leading the way, Quiches, Souffles, Eggs and Cheese, Breads, Meat, Poultry, Seafood, Waffles, Crepes and Pancakes, Salads and Vegetables, and lastly, Desserts. My mouth starts to water when I look at some of the pictures, namely, the Smokehouse Quartet, a chafing dish filled with assorted pork products which have been glazed with apple-cranberry syrup. The Danish Smorebrod is also tempting if you want an appetizer-sized assortment for your meal. Plantation Shortcake is a yummy mix of cornbread, creamed corn, and a cream sauce featuring leftover ham and chicken or turkey. A cute vintage trick is frosting grapes with Lime jello for a decorative touch.
There is a good balance of recipes in this book. Some include convenience foods, such as baking mix, frozen vegetables, or canned soup, but there are also recipes from scratch, like Belgian Waffles, Quiche recipes using a basic pastry recipe instead of pre-made crust, and Danish and other sweet breads. Obviously, you can substitute what you will, but personally, I always like cookbooks to have from scratch recipes. Also included are a couple of quintessential molded gelatin salads, like Orange Blossom Salad. Bottom line: you like vintage, you like brunch, BUY IT!
