Best breakfast/brunch book I have lately read completely with excitement and anticipation for every page. The recipes are fairly easy to prepare with simple ingredients. The ricotta cheese pancakes are absolutely devine, but the waffles with rhubarb comote and whipped cream, and also the sweet potatoes hash are my favorites. The drinks are all very enticing too. Just wish I could visit the restaurant itself.

Treat Your Friends to a Lovely Brunch,

This review is from: Brunch: 100 Recipes from Five Points Restaurant (Hardcover)
I discovered this book from a review in Life Magazine. Brunch seemed like a lovely, civilized way to entertain, but how do you cope with cooking omelets for more than two people or getting everything fresh/warm/chilled to the table in a timely fashion?
This books answers those questions. The baked omelet cassarole sounds delish. I can even make orange marmalade (once my orange tree really gets to producing). You can buy the oranges too, if you don't have a tree. The book also suggests themes, so you can make a party of brunch and there are even drink recipes (bloody Marys, bellinis and a blackberry-bay leaf spritzer).

The recipe for Smoked Salmon Benedict is worth the price of the book but there are so many other recipes for those of us who love to entertain and/or those of us who think Brunch is the best idea anyone ever came up with!

To be honest, this book was a waste of money. I was excited to buy it, but once it came in the mail and I paged through it looking for unique or creative ideas, I didn't find a single one that sounded appealing on any level. There are much better books out there so move on a find a different one.

Five Points,

What I am rating here is the actual restaurant itself. Whenever I go to NYC, I have to eat brunch here. I do always get the same thing, the huevos rancheros, because it is sooo damn good. But everything is good here. I hope the book has the huevos rancheros recipe in it.

I tried "FIVE POINTS HOME FRIES". It is too hot.
I tried "RED CABBAGE SLAW". It is too sour and strong onion smell. I can't eat them. I am going to others later. |
