Editorial Reviews

Review

Kathy gives very clear instructions for making each type of dish. Her book is well laid out with a clickable index (which I love). It is clear that this book was put together with fond memories and a love of cooking as well as attention to detail. ~Geoff Wells

My mouth was watering the entire time I was reading this book. I have to admit I am not such a great cooker (even though I like to think so) and some say I am still a beginner, but this book made everything so easy. ~Rony Barnes

I was interested in this book because I read Kathy's book on Pierogies and it was so good. I have to say that I didn't know what bialys, blini and blintzes were before I read this book but now I have a pretty good understanding. Kathy does a great job teaching beginners, like myself, how to make her delicious recipes. This book is filled with excellent tips and guides. One recipe that I have to try is the baked very berry blintz. Sounds YUMMY!

This book really covers everything you need to know about making bialys, blintzes and blini. It includes some non-dairy and gluten-free options. I was really more interested in the blini and blintz recipes. The grandmother of a friend of mine used to make potato and cheese blini and a variety of blintzes. They were delicious! So the recipes that caught my eye were some of the blintz fillings: cream cheese & vanilla, raisin and pecan cheese filling, cheese and spinach, blueberry with honey and caramel filling and topping. There were also blintz recipes for blintz souffles, blintz loaf and muffin blintzes which I had never heard of. I'll definitely try the potato blini and cheese blini since I know they'll bring back great memories. I used to work at a place that was near a popular store called Bagels and Bialys. Bialys are a lighter Bagel and are excellent with cream cheese. All in all a great and unique cookbook!

I'm sure that I'm probably mangling the pronunciation of these wonderful Jewish recipes - particularly bialys, which I had never heard of before this book. However, I'm sure they are destined to become a favorite.

Several decades ago there used to be a restaurant in a very upscale community in Western Massachusetts that served the most wonderful breakfast. Every now and then a couple of friends of mine and I would drop in for their blini - little buckwheat pancakes the size of a silver dollar, topped with slivers of smoked salmon, a dab of sour cream and a teeny sprig of fresh dill. How good those were! Like so many good things, that restaurant is gone. They do not serve blinis for Sunday brunch anywhere that I can think of in at least 150 miles in any direction. I did, however, see some very nice smoked salmon at the grocery store last week. In fact, smoked salmon is something I just happen to keep around most of the time and Sunday Brunch has become my very favorite way to entertain. (What can I say? I'm getting "older". I go to bed with the chickens and get up at 4 in the morning.)

Thus, I was very glad to see author Kathy Gary's Brunching on Bialys, Blini and Blintzes: Delicious and Easy Bialys, Blini and Blintz Recipes (Easy Ethnic Dishes). Very nicely put together (though I do wish the interactive index listed individual recipes rather than just sections), Brunching on Blintzes is full of recipes that go far beyond mere Bialys, Blini and Blintzes. Blini Souffle, anyone? I'm in the middle of packing to move, so blinis are a bit beyond my available kitchen equipment at the minute, but I'm out of breakfast stuff - Bialys dough is rising in the bowl. Yum!

A nice addition to your collection of ethnic recipes. Recommended.

This is one of the best written e-cookbooks of it's type that I've ever seen.

The recipes for each type of bread starts with an introduction including a bit of history. Then the author explains the method for making it in clear, step by step detail. Then she follows basic recipes with more advanced or differently flavored variations.

I got it for the blintzes, but after reading it, and trying a few recipes, blini are my new favorite. My husband loves them as well. People who enjoy things that are a little different but still familiar will enjoy the options and recipes.

Great, tested recipes and lots of filling options for sweet or savory dishes, plus great instructions make this a delight for home cooks.

Brunching on Bialys, Blini and Blintzes is another great recipe book by Kathy Gary! I hadn't made any of these delicious dishes myself before but now I'm hooked! Kathy's friendly writing style mixed with her incredible selection of recipes makes this a must have for anyone looking to delve into the world of Bialys, Blini and Blintzes. A good read...and a good eat!

What can I say, my mouth was watering the entire time I was reading this book. I have to admit I am not such a great cooker (even though I like to think so) and some say I am still e beginner, but this book made everything so easy.

Very easy to follow recipes, crystal clear instructions and everything you need to know about cooking Blintzes and Bini. I would have appreciated more pictures with each step of the actual preparation, but I managed to follow the instructions to the T without the pictures.

I tried one recipe and it turned out incredibly good. I can't believe it myself. I will definitely try more recipes soon.

Thanks for a great book. I Definitely recommend it.
