5.0 out of 5 stars Great!
I have now used this stand on four backpacking trips. It makes a huge improvement in the stability of my stove...especially if using the small fuel cannister. Also, since it is a tripod, it is much easier to find a suitable location for the stove. Uneven surfaces are not as much of an issue now.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but be very careful not to break the legs!
I purchased one of these, and the first time out of the box I tried to spread the legs, only to find one of them snapped off very easily. It turns out that one of them is a stationary leg (not described in the instructions), and does not move. It has a pin that extends through it, locking it in place. The other two legs do move, but this should definitely be explicitly...

Obviously, it is made of plastic so I have been somewhat careful with it. However, I don't think I've even come close to breaking it...that would require a little force or carelessness.

Pros: Weighs next to Nothing. Costs next to nothing. Fits in my cook kit. Well worth the SEVEN DOLLARS. If mine breaks I will probably buy another one for SEVEN DOLLARS.

Other than that, the can stand seems to work fine, I am just disappointed in the instructions.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is ok but can be better, January 1, 2009

I'm a little bit dissapointed with this canstand. My main complaint is that the canstand does not fit perfectly to the standard "tall" butane gas cylinder; I mean, it is a little bit loosy and it is why can't give a perfect support to the gas cylinder.

You can mount on it the mentioned cylinder, but if someone accidentaly moves slightly the table the lamp/stove has a high probability to fall down for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing in its simplicity, August 30, 2009

When I changed stove systems from one with bottled fuel to a canister system, I was concerned about the stability of the stove when heating a 2 quart pot due to the small base of the typical canister. When I saw the Brunton Canstand my thinking was "Now there is a great idea!". I just returned from a backpacking trip where I used the Canstand and I must say I was really impressed that something so simple would work so well. The three point stand extends at least an inch beyond the MSR canister I was using with my Primus stove and creates a much more stable base. It weighs slmost nothing and fits in my stove bag. Any canister stove user should not be without one!

3.0 out of 5 stars Check Amazon's "MSR Universal canister Stand", March 26, 2011
This review is from: Brunton Canstand For Butane Canisters (Sports)
Reading the comments on this device made me glad that I bought the MSR Universal Canister Stand -- available at Amazon.com.

The MSR model has metal legs and are longer/more stable. The comments on the legs breaking, and that they are plastic are negatives to me.

So, I would check out MSR's before buying this one. This one looks like it might be smaller and lighter. List price is cheaper, but the shipping costs completely negate that unless you use one of Amazon's free shipping techniques.

I'm not trying to warn anyone away from this one, just be aware of a good alternative. And then take your pick.

3.0 out of 5 stars good idea, but doesn't fit 3.5" canisters, March 6, 2011

Bought this for my Jetboil. I guess it could work, but it won't fit the 3.5" wide canisters that nest so neatly inside the Jetboil.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great! Until it breaks..., February 26, 2011

This thing was great to have-lightweight and worked well to keep my stove and dinner stable while cooking (nothing worse than knocking over your dinner when low on water on top of a mountain). But even though I was always very careful about putting it in a place it wouldn't get crushed (because I read the reviews here), it broke. While useful, it definitely isn't worth it to me to buy another-I would say it's probably worth about $8 to me with how easily it was broken.

A handy, dandy tool to help stabilize the canister stove. Works with any canister. Love it!
