5.0 out of 5 stars can be field-stripped and cleaned without tools!
I bought the brunton echo monocular about 6 months ago for use while hiking and biking. 1.0 out of 5 stars No use for me
The zoom is great, if you want a close-up of a door knob from ten feet away. As for longer distances, it rivals the naked eye. Which leads me to ask: why would this thing even be invented, and what is it good for? Obviously I bought it, thinking it was a weak pocket version of binoculars. Nope, it's more of a powerful magnifying glass. I can't say I recommend it...

I bought the brunton echo monocular about 6 months ago for use while hiking and biking. On a recent trip, I discovered that the view was blurred by oil which had been jostled onto the internal lens by what were -- quite honestly -- extreme conditions of vibration and shock. Unbelievably, I was able to disassemble and clean the monocular in the field without tools. The eyepiece guard unscrews, followed by the eyepiece, and then the prism and aperture lift out. Thus I was able to clean all of them and make the monocular function again, quite easily.

In my experience, it is very rare that one finds a product engineered this well. I am very impressed.

In funcion, the echo is at the top of its price class. It is not multi-coated, nor does it utilize high-grade glass, and it behaves accordingly. But the performance to weight ratio (which is most important to me) is very high.

I am not just satisfied with this product; I am enthusiastic about it, and would recommend it to anyone.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Which leads me to ask: why would this thing even be invented, and what is it good for? Obviously I bought it, thinking it was a weak pocket version of binoculars. Nope, it's more of a powerful magnifying glass. I can't say I recommend it because I can't tell what's its good for, but it's not good any serious distance. Put it to you this way: If you can walk there in ten steps, you don't really need this; if you can't walk there in ten steps, this won't help you see it 'up close'.
