When I first saw The Brunton "FlipSticks" Folding Chopsticks, I told to myself that I have to buy it. It arrived in about a week, the idea is very good, however the folding chopsticks wasn't as good as I expected. First the bamboo stick is not too strong, in my personal opinion I think the company should use plastic instead of bamboo. Second the metal area is too wide, making it very difficult to hold the chopsticks. The company should make it thinner, so that it will fit better between fingers. Overall, I think this is a good idea. I just hope the company will have some improvement on their second version.

I was going to give these chopsticks as a gift. Out of curiosity, I opened the plastic packet to see how they worked...terrible. The chopsticks cannot be held in any way that would allow the user to grasp their food...no less grasp it comfortably. The metal part is flat, wide, and doesn't lock in the upright position, so the two chopsticks get tangled within each other. I thought they would make a clever gift, but I'm glad I tried them before I gave them away.

I recently bought nearly every pair of travel chopsticks I could find online. I was excited about using these due to their unique look, but they did disappoint. The pivot point in the middle gets in the way making them comfortable to use in exactly one position. This makes it very difficult to eat out of a take out box because you can't get a good grip on the metal parts. Also putting them down and picking them up takes just that much more time because you have grip them just so to actually use them.

So, the one point nobody's pointing out that I think is important is that this design is by far the most sanitary of folding/portable chopstick designs out there. There's no deep dark hole to clean out that stays wet and gets gross. No threads that get greasy. There's just a very accessible bamboo surface (which holds food better than slick plastic, imo).

The flat top half does make it awkward to use. You have to adopt a fairly close grip, where your fingertips are controlling on the wood part, rather than on the metal part. Once you figure that out, it's quite functional, but not quite "like home."

If they had changed the shape of the sliding lock bar just a wee bit to slide *over* the metal base, it would have strengthened the chopsticks' ability to hold up against strong side forces...like the kind you apply to it when trying to pick up a ridiculously large portion of pork chop. But as it is, the lock bar just slides up to the base. Is it firm? not the firmest.
