The Brunt of Brunton Tested,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Brunton Firelight Windproof Lighter with LED Light (Sports)
A very good ligher and compact, powerful flashlight to boot. Has fair amount of volume for butane, and is efficient. I live in Colorado and visit elevations of 9-14' frequently. At 9000 ft it performs, but much over that and she loses the ability to produce a flame. I would recommend this to anyone who isn't going to depend on this lighter at high elevations. Hence 4 stars of five.

LED broke within minutes. Lighter broke within months.,

The LED light on this lighter broke within minutes of opening it. It worked twice and after I took it off to fill the lighter with butane it has not worked since. I did not drop or mishandle it at all. It's under warranty but I don't even know if it's worth sending the whole thing back to Brunton for a replacement.
The lighter part seems to work fine. Update: I called Brunton and they will not replace the LED light only, even though it detaches from the lighter. They want me to send the whole thing back. I don't see why I should have to pay postage to send the whole item back for potentially weeks just so that they can replace the LED. If I could, I would downgrade them to 2 stars because of their customer service. Update 2 (15 months later): The lighter does not work anymore unless I fill it completely full of butane fuel, then it lights a few times and then stops. (even if there is plenty of fuel left in the lighter). And I'm using Zippo fuel, not some off brand. This thing is a piece of garbage. I'm going back to matches. 30,000 ignitions my ***. I got maybe 1% of that.

Excellent Lighter and Flashlight,

This thing works great. Very durable and rugged. The lighter works great in the wind and at altitude. Some reviewer said this lighter doesnt work well at high altitudes, I have found that the lighter does indeed work fine up to at least 14000ft, but you may have to turn down the butane pressure to allow the flame to light, which is very easy to do. Highly recommended for its durability and performance as well as its clever combination of two very useful tools.

This lighter has performed very well for me. It has a strong, jet hot, windproof flame. I also like the LED light attachment.

Nice Concept, needs improvement, batteries hard to find, great customer support.,
This review is from: Brunton Firelight Windproof Lighter with LED Light (Sports)
The concept of having a wind proof lighter, rugged for the outdoors, with an led light for 'just in case' is a good idea.
Here is the good: The lighter works and you can adjust the flame to actually light kindling. Here is the bad:The lighter cover is flimsy, loose tolerances on the hinge mechanism, and does not have an o-ring which would make it water proof. When the unit is submerged in water, the element is wet, downgrading the unit to LED light only until you dry it. The LED batteries (yes, 2 are required) are type CR-1220, 3V, in series makes it 6 volts. I've been to Target, our grocery store, REI, Sav-on, and cannot locate the battery. Anyway, if you have to have everything, get it so you can brag about having a neat James Bond looking lighter. Update: I contacted customer service because the (then plastic) threads failed and they sent me a new flashlight with a new body that has metal threads. The Brunton company has excellent support, even for an older product model. Be very confident in buying anything from these people.

LED Extremely Disappointing and Lighter OK,
By
This review is from: Brunton Firelight Windproof Lighter with LED Light (Sports)
Received the lighter and first found out that it had not fuel. So I couldn't test it. Rats. I did test the LED. I've had several LED lights before and have been pleased with them all. The problem with this lighter and it's LED is the on/off mechanism. You screw in the bottom (where you remove bottom to expose filler valve) tighter and it shuts off. Perhaps mine is defective but the bottom does not allow you to screw it all the way in. Thus, Brunton Lighter, out of the box, had a perpetually loose bottom/end cap and consequently the LED light was seemingly always on. For spending this much on a lighter that is okay and an LED that is marginal at best (no multi-features (focus, blinking, SOS, or dim feature (to extend battery life)) I hope that Brunton can improve this wonderful idea that is unfortunately poorly executed. I am going to have to send mine back to see if it was defective.
This is my second Brunton product. I purchased a nice compass from them years ago and am still satisfied with the product.

Good value - but buy for the lighter not the light,

This lighter has worked very well in a wet stiff wind and it is more compact and less expensive than comparable wind-proof lighters. It has been reliable despite being knocked around in a stuffsack. I consider the LED light a nice addition, but only as a backup light in a pinch. I wouldn't buy it for the light. It's a single LED, so not terribly bright, and can be easily lost when detached from the lighter.

Bad Design Poor Quality,
This review is from: Brunton Firelight Windproof Lighter with LED Light (Sports)
I should have believed the review about the poor design on the on off for the flash light. Mine did not work well either. In fact batteries were dead when lighter arrived. Could not find size of battery that lighter required. Light kept falling off anyway. Lighter itself would seldom light. All in all a great disappointment from a brand that I had some respect for. Lighter was returned. :(

Not Too Happy,
This review is from: Brunton Firelight Windproof Lighter with LED Light (Sports)
Not too happy at all with this purchase. I bought it as a Christmas present for my husband. He has already had to send it back once because it quit working. They sent him a new one but now that one is about ready to die. Not a good idea to purchase this.
