This review is from: Brunton Wind River Range Cook Stove (Electronics)
We have a well-used vintage Coleman and a very good Century in our camping gear collection but they have been retired since I bought the Brunton. Expensive, but oh my goodness, what a treat to cook on!
I do miss the Century's auto-light, but the BTU's on the Brunton Wind River, like my Dacor range at home, are strong and steady, and the flame goes down to a decent simmer. I bought the surprising lightweight SimmerMat but haven't had to use it yet.
I'm a Scout leader, and when we set up camp, the girls pop up the REI camp kitchen, spread out the gorgeous Brunton Wind River Range, unpack and hang the tools from the side compartment, set in the sink, and we are ready to go. I mean to buy a coffee pot sometime, and have the Fox Hill oven arriving tomorrow, but meanwhile we are doing with my kitchen castoffs, except for our Lodge griddle, which I bought on the recommendation of a very helpful fellow at Brunton.
This is an elegant machine. It is simple, beautifully tooled, gloriously effective. Since it arrived I haven't had the tiniest pang of anguish at having paid so much because it is absolutely worth it. In the event of a potluck, power blackout or some other emergency, add a larger tank (it comes with an adapter), and you can feed the neighbourhood with an efficiency impossible with the smaller stoves. Yes, I have the splendid little Brunton multi-fuel backpacker - ever so light and lovely, but when I'm feeding a troop, the family, or the people on my block, my beautiful Wind River will be on the front lines.
